choosing new sub

i currently have 2 tens in a bandpass box. is there any way, keeping the same power to the box, that a single subwoofer (i'd assume it would have to be bigger maybe 12, don't want a 15) of higher quality would sound comparably loud? the two tens are old school mtx thunder fives from years ago. that box is just too damn big and heavy

i'm asking because i recently tried putting in another box i have that has 1 ten inch alpine r10, and hooked it up to the subs, and was nowhere near as loud (of course i expected this given that it was only 1 sub of the same size, in a quieter box, but i'm hoping that increasing size and quality will help make a single sub in reg box sound more comparable

sound quality in a prefab bandpass box, good luck.

you'll want to go with a different route if u want to keep volume and increase quality :)

well they're already in the prefab bandpass, and i know the quality isn't that great, but i don't mind them. it's just the loudness that i want to match, so anyone know if a quality 12'' in a regular box could get anywhere near the loudness of the two crappy 10's in a bandpass?

sure it can. a 12" in a ported box has a potential to get louder than 2 10" in a bandpass. just depends how much space u have available and how much $$ u have

wait space? how big of a box would a single 12'' need? part of the reasoning behind switching is saving space. could you name some models that would be able to give me comparable performance w/ a 12''?
