004R. GTR. McLaren Promo car or something. I think its one of the nicest GTRs :D
Peloton25

It is a GTR - I (we) used to believe that it was GTR #09R prior to learning the true story behind that car. For those who don't know, #09R was built for the Brunei Royal Family as an exact replica of the LeMans winning GTR #01R. So now that #09R has been eliminated from the running I think the latest guess is that this could be GTR #04R. This car was never actually raced in this livery, but was used for the "West Adrenaline Program" which toured eastern European countries showcasing the McLaren Formula One team as well as this F1 GTR and they also brought along one of those huge racing semi trucks (lorry racing is what I believe it is called). You can search the web to find more info on the program. Here's one of the few photos I have from one of the events:
http://a0.cpimg.com/image/6C/B0/33979500-c7b5-028001CA-.jpg
In reference to the photos you posted - I actually believe that the car its next to it under the car cover is another short tailed GTR or possibly an LM. It could be #01R or XP1 LM considering the factory still retains possession of both those cars.

i think its weird how they put mercedes stuff on a car with a BMW engine in it,and looking at the pic again i think it is a short tail gtr or xp1 lm since the gt would be a little bit lower at the back and i found the pic of hte Gt i was talking about and it is facing a different way and no other mclaren next to it.

West has no real relation with Mercedes Benz per se. West is a cigarette brand that happens to sponsor the McLaren Formula One team which uses Mercedes Benz engines.

COuld u tell me how u actually change gear in the McLaren?
i thought u just pulled back to shift up and forward to go down but in alot of pics/videos it shows them using it like a standard gearbox
The road cars (including the F1 LMs and F1 GTs) all had a standard transmission with the gated shift pattern which is found on most manual transmissioned cars. The early GTRs from 1995 and 1996 also used the same style gear change, but it proved to be less efficient under racing conditions than the sequential gearbox found on many of its competitors. When McLaren Cars developed the longtail GTRs, one of the improvements they deemed critical for the car's success was a sequential gear change, so only those 10 F1 GTRs would have a push forward/pull back style gear change.
You can see the different style of gear lever in this shot of #19R, the first longtail F1 GTR that was built. The shaft that you see running back from the bottom of the shift lever actually controls the transmission.

As an original owner, McLaren Cars provided a TagHeuer watch with the chassis number, also the fitted luggage for the side lockers was also included. For the garage, each F1 came with a rolling tool chest of FACOM tools, not that I'd expect many F1 owners to be turning wrenches on their own F1.
Here's some shots of the tool box that came with LM3 courtesy of drewwtms:
http://a4.cpimg.com/image/04/31/34078724-7a69-028001AB-.jpg
You can see the rather large torque wrench hanging off the side for the F1's center wheel locknut in the first photo.
http://a6.cpimg.com/image/06/31/34078726-0d06-028001AB-.jpg
For those who aren't familiar with tools, FACOM is widely regarded as some of the best tools in the world. They are used by many professional racing teams. I guarantee this rolling tool chest would cost several thousand dollars to replicate, even without the McLaren logos on the side.
I'm not certain if second and third owners of the F1 receive anything special from McLaren Cars, though I do know that they are available to make a new custom seat and refit the controls to the driver's preference. Also, while the watch, luggage and toolkit were included with the F1 originally - with it's million dollar price tag, I'd hardly call anything complimentary. :grinno:

It's in the first photo - the one right above that caption - you can see the enormous head of the torque wrench sticking above the toolchest near the door opener of the LM.
It's possible that the photo wasn't working temporarily as my image host is sometimes unreliable on rare occasions.

This shot of XP5 comes from the Apr '99 TopGear article recounting Tiff's British Closed Course Top Speed record at the Millbrook high speed bowl. It doesn't appear to be the exact same torque wrench hanging of the FACOM chest, but it's a mighty big one as well.

If someone prefers the Zonda or even a Pinto over the McLaren F1, that's their choice and there's no sense in arguing it.
I think most of the participants in here prefer to discuss factual info, not debate personal preferences, so please don't bring stuff like that to this forum.

Yeah it's frustrating which is why I choose to avoid that stuff. No sense in trying to educate someone who isn't eager to learn. Since those arguments are almost always based on visual appeal or a few numbers from a magazine it's really not worth getting in the middle of it.
