Squeek! HELP!

When ever I get in my car, and it has been driven for a while (3 hours) it squeeks when the car is moving along slowly. It is coming from the wheels when they rotate. The noise goes away after the car is warmed up. What could this be? Does it just need a good lube around the wheel bearing or something? Help appreciated!:(
Keep in mind that I need to get a wheel alignment soon as I hit a huge pot hole when accelerating onto the motorway! Shitty road! (Could this be causing the problem, although I doubt it)

Sounds like maybe the brake shoes on the disc's ??
Have you pumped the brake pedal a few times to see if it goes away???

Speaking of brakes and disc's.
How many of you have picked up a stone on a new road and one gets stuck between the disc and the outer cover and the bastard of a thing wont came out. Last time this happened to me i just about had to remove the whole bloodly brake assembly to get it out. Must be a way to stop this :( :(

On our car there is a little piece of metal attached on the brake pad ( actually a lot of cars have it ), when the pad is worn to a low point, the piece of metal (we call it squealer ) would drag on the rotor a make a squeal, and the squeal goes away when you apply the the brakes. It is a warning of low pad thickness.

Could you let me know how you get on with the pad change....$$$$ Etc
I have been thinking of doing mine or changing to a different kind.
Does any one know of, or is there a pad that does not give off a heap of brake dust.
I only have to drive my car for a couple of days and i have to then clean the wheels to get all the brake dust off them. Real pain in the arse.
I have heard you can up-date your pads to better ones, and would this fix the problem ????

Thanks.

Hi, do you know what make of pads you have in it. You can get dustless pads but they are big bucks. It depends if you have a soft compound pad they dust the worst, have you got mags, I use a semi metallic they give good stopping and are not to bad for dusting a full metallic is a bit hard on the disc rotor and the hot little specks of metal that comes off them can stuff your mags if you get them real hot, they stuffed my cragers by leaving pitting in the chrome.

Thanks for the reply.
Dont know what type they are. They where on it when i got the car,so i guess they would be the factory pads by Nissan.
They must be the soft compound type. Even when driving on the main highway for a hour or two and hardly using the brakes, the wheels show signs of dust all over them. It's only the front one's,even though it's disc's alround.
Have 18" silver alloys, so i guess the full metalliic ones will be no good.
I guess you can get them from places like Pitstop etc ???

Cheers

Most off the braking is done on the front you may have aftermarket on the front and nissan pads on the back if your car has done more than 80k or under 160k the back last longer. When you get them replaced tell them you have a dusting problem with the ones in it so they don't use the same brand. There are some real cheap and nasty pads on the market here. Have a price around and give me the year and model numbers and I will see what I can get them for. You can get yuck,so so,ok and good pads depends on price, check Nissan's price too.

Not sure what they are called. THere is a place called Les Hunter Automotive, they are brake specialists and could probly help. They have a website at http://www.leshunterauto.co.nz

Just a little thing make sure you do, in case you guys going to install the pad yourself..
When you push back the caliper piston, make sure you open up the bleeder screw to let the fluid come out at the same time. Never force the brake fluid back into the master cylinder on the car with ABS or you can mess the ABS unit up.
If you worry about getting air inside the brake system...
Get a pair of channel lock ready, open the bleeder, "clamp" the piston back ( fluid will shoot out), close the bleeder while holding pressure on the channel lock.

Dam! My mates car got the same treatment. It had an alarm (no immobilisar) and a ProLock on the steering wheel. They just broke into the car and popped the bonnet. Ripped out the siren. Then they cut through the steering wheel with a hacksaw, bent it and pulled the prolock off! They drove off with his car and stole his mags, sounds and his factory standard seats. BUGGER!
