Extended Warranty

I have put SIGNIFICANTLY more miles on my truck than I expected (2003 clicking over 18K in 9 months) and was considering the value/return on investment of an extended warranty either factory or after market.
My brother, the shade tree mechanic, says to let it go and take my chances. I understand his attitude about the investment. My concern is that I intend to keep this truck for quite some time and would like to maximize life/minimize cost.
I'd be interested to hear opinions and experiences.

if your brother is a decent shade tree mechanic let it go and if something major happens (motor, tranny) blame him, personaly i do not think they are worth it, hell the was gm has been treating problems lattly i don't think the original warrenty is worth shit.

your bro may be a good mechanic, but on late model vehicles u must have good hi tech equip to check them out. parts are also expensive. u say you are going to keep the truck for sometime. personally I would probably invest in an ext warranty providing it was back by the mfg and not some after market warranty. there is generally some mark up in these, and should be worth it if you dont have to pay an outragous price.

just one transmission or steering repair visit will more than cover the cost of the warranty!
