Stuck in manual mode

My BMW sat for a few months now it will only shift manually. It was fine before it sat. My speedo doesn't work and my wipers don't kick in when the car starts moving. I pulled the tranny cover and noticed what appears to be a speed sensor pointing towards the drive shaft. Is that what it is?

Thanks, Ben

The speed sensor is located on the final drive (rear end). It sounds like that may be your problem.
