I heard that you can take them in for free then chip ECU for free to fix the problem.

There was a pre-production design to production snafu. The intake manifold and exhuast were changed which ended up making less than advertised HP. Both the problems are and can be fixed for free at a Ford dealer as recall work to give you the advertised HP.

there is a sticker on the intake filter housing stating "authorized modifications: reprogrammed ACM"
i thought it would have been an alteration to the ecu somehow...unless someone had terrible handwriting. i guess it has been taken care of, cool. thanks guys.

That does not sound like it... 98% of recall work stickers are put on the door after the work has been complete. The recall is not fixed through the computer parts are actually changed.
