what gas mileage do you get?

as I was thinking about rising gas prices I was well aware that my recent tuneup was giving me better gas mileage. I needed 10.6 gallons to fill up, trip meter was reading 328. That's 30.9mpg! Before then I would get from 26-29mpg. I had replaced the plug wires and plugs (replaced bosche platinum with the same kind) much noticable improvement in the engine running smoother/quieter.

87 octane
1998 3.1L (130,000K)
all freeway miles average 70mph, going back and forth to work 88 miles round trip, no traffic slowdowns.
basically level terrain
Not using A/C.
any of you notice improvement by going up to 'higher quality' plugs like bosche platinum plus+2 or plus+4? how much? anything else to improve mileage?

a few people still check mileage wrong, the way to check mileage is to fill up, reset the tripmeter, then see how many gallons it takes to fill up when I am near empty. Then see how many miles are on the tripmeter.
Be consistent of how you fill the tank: stop on the first automatic cutoff, or keep adding more gas till you can't get anymore in the tank.... fill up the same both times.

I average about 240 Miles about to every full tank o gas, i never streeeeached it but once it gets to the line b4 E i always refuel, The only reason i do this is because i dont think my Euro Has a Fuel Warning Light lol, I use Bosch Plugs, but i also have an intake, i think i average good for a car 10 years old, plus my gas tank can take about 15 gallons i beleive so...

in usual town driving, I get around 22 to 24 mpg with my 2001 lumina 3.1 L v6, you think its time for a tuneup? If your pulling off 30 mpg, I want a piece of that pie.

i thought lumina only went up to 1999 - do you have the lumina apv or the lumina sedan? I have the sedan. We might be talking different things, you would naturally get less gas mileage in a minivan.

i had also cleaned the throttle body and surrounding intake parts when i replaced my intake gasket. Still getting 30mpg (well right at 29.8)... (I use a/c all the time now) still same driving patterns (65-70mph interstate most of the time, non-congested traffic conditions)

I do have a 2001 Chevy lumina Sedan. I did put a K&N air filter in it. And I have noticed that the higher the octane I put in, the better the gas milage I get. Its only got 42,000 miles on it, so it shouldn't be ready for a tune up yet, should it? Thanks for your reply.

The us model 3.1 chevy engine will give you 25 miles to the gallon.
This is a sea level average, the higher you are the better you engine will run,,,,,that is if you paid for your full at sea level.

Don't beleive me check it out,,,

fill up at 500 feet and run you car or van up to 2500 or 3000 and feel the engine it is responding better.

Now im no hero but it may be the computer is making the motor run better ,,,

a combination of stop and go and some highway driving, i get about 15 MPG in my 95. I really would expect it to be better though. With just highway driving, I probobly get 20 MPG.
