i know you have read this many times: "what should i do to it?"

i would like to spend only about 500 this summer. i am not going to touch the body or the suspension. i just want to put a few bolt ons in their places. i dont know how free flowing the exhaust or the headers are...or is there something else i can do.

i am new to the muscle car world-look what i previously drove...its still in the sig

thanks

i dont know much about cobras, but if they have the same rear end as the GT's then id suggest gears, you could also get some sticky tires, intake/exhaust (h pipe for sound, x pipe for a few more ponies)

personally if it was my car and my 500 bucks i would get an h pipe with some flows. why you ask? because i love the sound, its already got some good performance from the factory. an 03 cobra passed me on the road today and for that split second it was pure extasy. the sound alone made me think i was in Heaven. i had to pull over and clean up the mess i made ;)

If it was me I would do 4.10 gears. Improve that jump off the line and that seat of the pants feel.

be careful with slicks. 99+ cobras have indepenent rear suspension. you'll snap your half-shafts really easily, especially with a tall gear. i'd suggest mild street tires.

get a shifter too, like a pro 5.0 or a Hurst. much less chance of missing a gear change and all that.

but yeah, my suggestion is gears and a shifter. exhaust can cost you quite a pretty penny. i'd go with long-tubes, an h-pipe (for sound's sake: the performance difference is negligible), and dynomax straight-throughs (everybody and their great-grandma has flowmasters)

All i know is my dad and i test frove a black 99 cobra and man second gear packed one heck of a punch.

For me I would work on the exhaust sytem first then move to the engine. If you want I found a nift gadget "venom 400" now it says up to 25% horse power increase, how true that is im not sure. Check it out tho because it could become a great investment and its in your price. Its even got a switch to turn on and off for smog protections or something like that.

Congrats on your new buy!

First thing I would do is swap out the 3.27 gears for 4.10's.

Then exhaust. Longtube headers, highflow cat h-pipe, and a good catback.

Those should be a good spot for starters.

Best Bang for the Buck = GEARS... a 4.10 gear ratio is the best for cobras because they make their power higher in the rpm band. to get down low power off the line a 4.10 gear ratio will help. This will wake up your car and definitely be a noticeable modification. 1 problem...cost. you can find gears for around $160 on www.kmodifiedracing.com but you also have to buy a speed cal which is about $80, and pay to install them. Not an easy job. some places charge upwards of $200 for the install. Talk to k-Modified, they helped me out a lot. Personally, If I were you I would put on an exhaust. I have Flowmasters on my Stang within a week of taking it home. You cant even hear the car without an exhaust, and Mustangs are cars to be heard. Unlike your Integra, an exhaust is an actual noticeable gain with Mustangs, especially the high flowing cobra. You will feel the full potential of opening up the DOHC with an exhaust. I would suggest Magnaflow because of the cost issue. A Magnaflow X pipe with Magnapack Cat Back. you will be just over $500 with this combo, but it is well worth it. I have a Bassani X pipe with a Bassani Cat Back. Personally, I think it is the best sound, But it is rediculously expensive. Check out www.mustangexhaust.com to hear some sound clips. I hope this helps, and definitely check out www.kmodifiedracing.com, you have to email them, but they will definitely give you an awesome price.

thanks for all the help. i just felt like i had to go through the muscle car stage at some point.

so gears should knock off a few tenths in the 1/4, you guys know your mustangs.

edit: my car is very loud even with the stock exhaust.

I'm with HiFlow on this one too. 4.10's, LT headers, matching H-pipe, any aftermarket Cat-back you like the sound of.

The gears and install will pretty much take up your $500. Next move to LT headers cause the 4V Cobra really needs them to help it breathe in the upper RPM's where the car shows it's true beastly nature.
