2WD Conversion

I have a 1991 Toyota Pickup 22RE and its 2WD, I wanted to lift it up 4" but that would be pointless in a 2wd. Is there anyway I can make that a 4wd?

I do not know if you can do it. But just by thinking about all the work and money you would have to put into it, it would probably be better and cheaper to buy a used 4x4 and raising it 4".

Snowman what do you want to do with the truck? Are you looking to do some specific thing, or or you just looking for the versatility of a 4x4? If it is the later, It can be done, but not for a price less than a similar year truck that is already 4x4. lets see, transfer case, front axle, prop shafts, hubs, the lift, cutting the cab, wheels/tires, wiring harness, ecm. Thats the differneces I can think of right off the bat.
Anyone else care to chime in? I have a 94 4x4, I can maybe help you ID some differnces if you decide to try this conversion.
Best of luck,
Nate

hmmm sounds like it would be cheaper to just get a 4x4, maybe I will just take out the 4 cyclinder in it and drop a v6 w/ turbo down into it. I am trying to make it a project car for myself, and since I already have another ride I can, just need to find something to do with it.

I like the turbo V-6 idea. That could definitely be a sleeper car.

I was thinking the same thing, the paint is all messed up and who would suspect it from a 91' toyota pickup. Thank god it's a manuel.

brain fart. In the edmonton AB area, I have dealt with several guys that put 4.3 liter vortec v6 engines in their 2wd extra cab trucks. These things go like snot. One of the aftermarket companies build an adapter plate to bolt the chevy engine to the yota trans, and they also fab all the mounts/brackets/misc gear that you need to do it.
just food for thought

Hi; read your post and would like more information. I have an '83 2wd toyota pickup w/ std cab and was thinking about adding a 6 cyl motor.
Any info you have would be appreciated.

get a transfer case off of a 22re 4wd pick up. bolt it up to the tranny. then you have to deal with your whole front end and that garbage. have fun. ya just get a 4wd. then build it.
