Hey guys I have a 96 GT. I was driving to school today it is about 12 miles from my house half way there my shifter keeps popping out of the gear. For the first half of the trip it was fine no problems at all then just all of a sudden it started. My first, third, and fifth gear work fine never had any problems with them. My second, fourth, and reverse dont work though I cant get into those gears. I have the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter in there. Is it one of my linkage bars that is causing this problem? When the car is off I can move into all the gears with no problem. Anybody know what could be wrong?

Sounds to me like a linkage adjustment needs to be made. I dont think its your syncros. How fast are you shifting? Maybe your trying to shift faster than the locks will allow so you can manage to get it in those gears. Revers is a non syncronized gear, try letting out on the clutch a little and it should pop right in, thats what I have to do in my truck sometimes anyway. Dont let the clutch out much though, just a very little bit. Just enough to get the trans to roll the gears a little bit. I'd say its just a linkage adjustment with your 2-4 though.

Thanks for the response. I figured out what it was, somehow on my steeda tri-ax my bottom stop bolt got pushed back up so it was restricting me from going into all the bottom gears. I think it is from all the transmission rattle. Anybody know how to stop it from doing this again?

On the Steeda Tri-ax there should be a nut on the other side of the stop bolt that you can use to tighten it into place. If that doesnt fix it, try going down to your local hardware store and buy a couple of locking nuts or washers.
