Im not sure if this is the right place to post this..but anyways..
Im tired of people always complaining about how poor they are and making excuses for why they are poor especially blaming it on their race... I'm half mexican although I look 100% white.. and I grew up poor as can be living in a 2 bedroom apt with 6 people, having to sleep on the floor all through highschool and not having a family car. We were without electricty or phone alot of times. I'v had guns and knives pulled on me in my neigborhood. When we left the apt, we had to stay at friends places or hotels until we could get money to get a new place. Through all this I was able to graduate with honors from high school, graduate college with a computer science degree, and now I am supporting myself and even helping my parents out with money when they need it. My sister took some college courses too and lives well off with her husband and 2 kids. My brother is currently a sophmore in college as well. If we were able to do all this then i dont see how anybody willing to work hard can't do the same. There should be no excuses to get out of the slums.
-if your poor and especially if you aren't white you can have a good deal of your college paid for for free, maybe even all of it if you make the grades
-if school isnt your thing, you can go to technical school, play sports, or stay at 1 job long enough to make manager or something
-work hard. no ones going to give you anything if you don't work hard for it
-most importantly DON'T DO DRUGS(even weed thats still a drug and costly too), DON't DRINK EXCESSIVELY, and DON'T HAVE KIDS

haha..im not saying never..at least have a job and some money first..don't be like my high school..we had the highest pregnancy rate in the county, our county was the highest in the state, and our state is the highest in the country! We had a 9 month waiting list for the day care center at the school so as soon as girls got pregnant they had to sign up to get in. That doesnt mean you can't have fun  just be careful :uhoh:
PS just because you have kids early doesn't make you a slut and your are now hopeless! People make mistakes and this is a very common mistake. My mother had 3 kids by the time she was 21 the first before marriage and my sister had her first before she was married, it just makes things a lot harder, but they did it and that means anybody else can do it too!

I agree. It's easy to make excuses, blame others and turn to the drug game for easy money etc- it's hard to do what you've done. Very admirable.:)

Im tired of people always complaining about how poor they are and making excuses for why they are poor...
Out of curiousity, what happens when you work in the same job for 27 years and then your company decides to outsource to India and lay you off? Oh, and you have a wife, and two kids in college.
Or perhaps, your husband leaves you with two daughters, forcing you to get two jobs just to pay rent and keep them in school, only for you to get laid off by the first job, and subsequently a year or so later, laid off by the second? How do you pay medical insurance? Car insurance? Gas? Food? Rent? Want your kids to go to college? What about birthday and x-mas presents?
The poverty of this country isn't caused only by drugs and laziness. I hate people who make excuses also, but that doesn't mean all of them are unwarranted.

For the sake of devil's advocacy, please have evidence to back up your claims. Otherwise it's nothing but hearsay, and invalid in any potentially intelligent argument.

^Well that definately sux... I can speak a bit from exp here I was fired at no fault of my own, my wife bailed on me for another guy leaving me my son, and all the bills (insurance, mortgage, car pmts ect.). I didn't set around and feel sorry for myself though, I sold the house, rented the cheapest apt I could find and and found another job all in a matter of weeks and everything turned out just fine, sure I don't make what I use to but I just had to readjust my lifestyle and change my spending habits.
Living in a large city I see lots of freeway off ramp "sign holders" that look physically fit enough to work but for whatever reason they would rather stand by the intersection with their hardluck story posted on a large piece of cardboard and beg for money. These are the type of people I think 2slow was referring to. I think if they wanted to work and find a job they could, they are just to damn lazy to do it.

Exactly, see my post "Can you spare some change?" =) Almost verbatim as far as what I was thinking.

uh I have never been poor but I agree with the dude up ttop ^^ with what he said. Poverty is not caused by laziness most of the time, if your laid off its really hard to find work again. My mom is a Physical therapist went to University of Penn.(Ivy league) got her masters made 140k a year as a director for a hospital for the Rehab department. THen Clinton decided to mess with medicare and boom she got layed off. We were able to keep the house barely by her doing contract work but her pay was almost cut in half. and since bush hasnt done any better her pay is still lower(110) a year and jobs are iffy. And no there is no husband or anything to bail her or me out. So now shes gotten older with no retirement saved up still doing Physical work, and is no longer in a management position. If her back goes theres no pay coming in, and she has spurs on her back. I cant work becauseI just had a kidney transplant. And Im on medicare. Also since she lost her job before the INsurance got messed up. Blah blah blah you get the picture. Government can fuck up someones life to financially.
