Any SHO owners in here?????

Not new to AF but never been in the Taurus side, just curious if there any SHO owners in here. I,ve got a 1990 Taurus SHO, 5speed. Well I am stripping it out, cuz I want the engine, harness and ECU for my project car.

I've got a 93 ATX undergoing a complete 60k right now.

I have a 94 MTX...moonlight blue...glad to see some other SHO people..

Hey guys, I have a buddy considering buying a 94 SHO and was wondering the durability of the engine?

engine durability -- as long as regular maintenance is kept up, it'll go for a long time. If you fall behind or it's been neglected, it will fail sooner or later. You'll hear of a 60k when reading up on SHO's. It involves adjusting valve lash and replacing the timing belt, among other things. One way to tell whether it has been done recently is pull the spark plug wires off and look for oil in the spark plug wells. the seals that keep oil in the valve covers usually fail as the scheduled maintenance is due.

you also never mentioned if the 94 your buddy was looking at is an auto or manual. Not to scare you away from either, but both transmissions are prone to leaving you stranded. The auto's just fail because they can't handle the power, and with the manuals, the diff pin will shear and break through the transmission casing. Both have to be abused or maintenance neglected to die, so as long as you don't abuse the car while you own it and put money into keeping it running right, it will be a great ride. Also, try to get as much history on the car as possible.

Not sure about a timing belt being done in this car?
It has 183k miles and a hotter cam put in? Intake & exhaust mods...Its a 5 spd with a new clutch & trans...He has some nice Eibach lowering springs/shocks & 17" rims with Z rated Goodyear Eagles...For $1950?
I have seen it fly by my office so it sounds like it runs strong.

I don't know whether he has 'hotter' cams in there. Don't forget, there are four of em. I would doubt it, they are really expensive, and up until a couple days ago, SHOShop (in California) was the only place to produce cams.

New clutch is a selling point, because it's a brutal job to have done.

With the exhast/suspension work done, it sounds like the PO liked the car. Unless it was beat on, definately consider it!

He says his dad has a race shop and put the cam's in? I have no idea? How far have u seen these engines go? (I have also seem a trace amount of smoke)

Another owner here, I have a titanium 89 with the rod shifter conversion sitting on slicers. I think I've seen you on SHOforum Alex, I don't post there too often however.

smoke isn't unusual if you know where its coming from. take a look at the end of the rear head on the pass. side (above the power steering pump). The cam sensor is there, and behind it, the cam seal tends to leak over time. It's a cheap fix. If the exhaust actually smokes, thats not good. I would avoid it.
They tend to go for a long time. they can go well beyond 200,000 miles assuming its maintained properly.

We own 5 Gen 1's (one is a plus model), 2 Gen 2's, and 2 Gen 3's SHO's. We also have a SHO-ble, 88 Mercury Sable with a 93 ATX drivetrain.

I currently have 4 SHOs. 2 89 MTX, one I'm restoring and the other for parts. A 93 MTX that I'm hoping to get done this winter (Had an abrupt meeting with a light pole) and a 95 MTX. My 89 driver has 260k, the 93 has 135k and the 95 has 245k. They are an excellent car if well taken care of, but for that matter, most cars will be. I have a 95 GMC Sierra ext cab with 407k on it and the engine has never been open. Basic maintenance is all and I would much rather drive it than my wife's 98 POS er uh Windstar.

I love the gen 1 tauruses and I finally got an sho to tear into, best damn car ford ever made :)

I used to have a mint 1993 ATX (red). Traded that off for a Dodge Stealth R/T twin turbo, but missed the comfort of the SHO so I bought a '98 Green SHO as my daily driver. The '93 had 104k on it when I sold it, I never had any problems with it. The '98 just turned 80k, haven't had problems with it yet (but I don't think the cams are welded).

Have a 91 SHO just bought it in October of 2004 hoping to do the work my self and get the thing running to its potential after previous owner beat on it severly breakin 3 of the 4 springs but hopefully it won't die before I replace everything. Already have front 2 springs replaced and had to replace Crankshaft position sensor other then that love the car won't trade it for anything.
