I was making a trip to a local salvage yard to pick up a few things for my civic, and I noticed in the center tail piece where it normally just says CIVIC, it also said special edition. It was a 4 door and didn't look to special to me, but what do I know. Anyone know what makes it a "special edition"........besides the sticker?

it was available in Canada, it was essentially a dressed up DX, painted moulding and mirrors, power stuff, I think the hatch version had an Si lip...nothing too special....

That sounds like the 4th gen Accord Special Ed's... weaker LX engine, but they had leather interior, sunroofs, and other power accessories.... oh yeah, and were only available in automatic.
I don't see the point of even making them...

This one was a Stick, no sunroof, no power windows/locks, standard interior. The one thing I did notice.....I snag the ashtray, and when I put iit in my dash it was pure black....I figured it to be the same grey/blackish color of my dash....
Also, I popped the hood to see if there was anything special and the only different I noticed was that the oil cap was on the far left of the engine, and the cap looked like a smaller version of the gas cap.

the special edition was the last of the cars to be sold in 90-91 so they changed a few things to get rid of them before the new car came out such as full electrics, different bumpers, clear front turn signals, air conditioning and so on, it wasn't all just visual changes though, some hade different drive shafts and stuff, i had a lot of trouble trying to find replacement shafts for mine............,,,,,,,,,,,....

Really old post.
SE = not-so special DX with painted mouldings, mirrors, and Si lip like the guy above said.
They're not special.

they were just re-hashs of the previous model to dress them up to customers to get the sales on em up before the new models were rolled in.

I would say that the CRX Special Edition was an exception to what you guys are stating above. The CRX Special Edition was released in 1991 and a half, and all of them had consecutive VIN numbers. It was done as a final send off for the CRX's. Honda knew that they had a strong market for the CRX in Canada, but Honda Japan insisted on discontinuing the line. So they offered Canadian's one more opportunity to purchase a special CRX before halting production. Only 250 were made. There were quite a few aesthetic differences (EDM VT spoiler, front lip, EDM VT leather steering wheel, vogue silver metallic paint, painted mirrors/door handles/mouldings, optional power windows, etc) and they generally command quite a higher price than the book value for the normal CRX Si's.

There's a CRX SE in my town that the guy has owned for at least 6+ years, and I seen it the other day with two rims on the curb holding the whole passenger side of the car off the ground. :( I wanted to take a pic and show it to all CRX lovers. :p Its a shame.

It is a shame that other CRX SE owners treat their cars so badly....but on the flipside, it makes my CRX SE all the more valuable. :D
