over heating

i have a problem my amp overheats too easily. and switches on and off i have three 10s (sony xplods) are they crap? but why is my amp over heating. I have a 500 watt mono block XTREME by directed audio. Can someone help me? is sony really good. Because from my knowledge it hits.

Okay, first off, no offence, but Sony sucks. Plain 'n simple. As for your problem, you are probably pushing your amp too hard. Is it 500W max, or RMS? Try turning your gains down until it plays for a while w/o overheating, or get a better amp. Preferably not Sony :p

I agree, Sony sucks... Plus running 3 10's off a 500 watt amp is not the best thing neither. You need to go with another brand, bigger amp!

Three drivers! That, well, odd!

Sounds like your impedance is too low. If the three subs are 4-ohm, three connected in parallel is equal to 1.33-ohms. This is likely too low for your amp.

You'd do best to lose one sub, run just two in parallel, if your amp's good for a 2-ohm load. (Might not be.)

You could turn your gains down, but that's just limiting the system, and the amp is still mis-matched (driving too low-impedance a load).

In other words, I agree with Chris...unless you have three ears...
