replacement engine for an 87

Hi, I'm getting an 4dr 87 auto tercel from my friend with a blown engine but the tranny is still good. I'm just trying to find out what the engine is thats in it (its a 1500cc from what I was told) so I can try to find a cheap replacement to get it running. Thanks for your help
