is a 10 bolt the same as a dana 60?

no dana 60 is different, and yes, just about all camaros are 10 bolt, Z's are posi, most others are open, as for gear ratio, look at your build sheet aka spid label, and look for the three digit code GU#, and post it. well be able to tell you your gear ratio from that.

um...... 9 bolt???? eh as far as a 12 bolt, im guessing were talking aftermarket, in which case theres no way we can tell you, or its a first gen, in which case ill have to do some digging on how to decode those, they might have different codes for the gears, i assumed we were talking third or fourth gen here.

well what i did yesterday was turned the tire one rotation and counted how many times the drive shaft turned.....it came out to a little over 3 and a half times.....i heard thats a way of telling...

yeah i suppose that could work, kinda a guestumation way, so like 3.50 or 3.73 gears or somethin.

korndogg
05-20-2004, 10:19 PM
yeah..somewhere like that....now...im in the middle of puttin the 700r4 in....what gears do you think i should go with?

89IROC&RS
05-20-2004, 10:21 PM
should work quite nice with what your runnin already, assuming that your guess is right. converter is more a worry for that. stall speed and all. for instance, my 700R4 is shifting weird, and flashing to stall speed in fourth gear, because im running a 2800 stall converter with 2.77 gears. im throwing in a set of 3.27 gears because they are better matched to the stall speed in the converter.

ok ...the converter that im getting is a 2200-2400 non lockup....

89IROC&RS
05-20-2004, 10:25 PM
eh, if youre running the 700R4, i would get the lockup, its worth a few MPG and if you wire it to lockup in second gear, its worth a few tenths in the quarter, but using that regularly will burn up the lockup clutch pretty fast. but with gears and a loose converter, the lockup feature is worth its weight in gold.

ugh i dunno what to get...people tell me to get it and others tell me not to cause i dont need it.

05-20-2004, 10:31 PM
oh by the way...its a 68 if i didnt tell you

89IROC&RS
05-20-2004, 10:47 PM
well heres how i see it, it dosnt HURT performance, and gives you better gas mileage. so its not like cutting off a smog pump or anything, its the best of both worlds, anyone telling you not to run it is stuck in the past. technology is great :)

korndogg
05-20-2004, 10:49 PM
but that also means i have to run wires....its a 68...less wires the better :)

05-20-2004, 11:13 PM
oh you mean the Borg Warner rear, ok, sorry never heard it called a 9 bolt, i was thinkin 9 inch ;) i actually have that rear in my IROC :) with disk brakes :)

as far as running the wires for the lockup converter.... with gas prices going the way they are, id say its worth the effort. lol

9 bolt rear ends kick ass! Im just waiting for my fancy pants aluminum stud cover girdle and then mines all set.

05-20-2004, 11:30 PM
yeah, im lookin at upgrading to 3.27 gears, theres a GTA down the street, but they want to sell me the whole rear, instead of the diff and gears, and i dont really need the whole damn thing. and an aluminum stud girdle. i think those rears use a 7.75in ring gear or somethin. over the stock 7.5-7.625in ring gear.

its not that big of a deal to run the wires for it. its gunna cost you some money but its not complicated. there are many different kits to do it but its simple. and like i said along time ago i would also recamend running a lockup.

Yea I just picked up a 3.27 rearend a couple months ago. I just gotta swap my brakes over and throw it in. The aluminum diff cover wont be done for another couple months though so I have to wait for that.
