Unknown Problem with 94

I have an all wheel drive 1994 V6 caravan that is giving me problems. Whenever I accelerate, my car hestitates and makes a popping sounding and my rpms go up and down. I believe it to be an engine problem because my check engine light went on a month ago. I don't believe it to be my transmission, so if you have any idea's on what the problem could be could you reply cause I have no clue where to go from here.

you should identify what code is logged in the "computer". That would be the first step.
If you are unable to retrieve it manually just take your vehicle to Autozone and they will retrieve the codes for free.
