According to my Dangerous Good Segregation Guide...
- Don't put flammable gas in the same vehicle or container with explosives, oxidising agents, flammable liquid, spontaneously combustible materials and stuff that's dangerous when wet. Also no radioactive stuff either. It's okay though to have other flammable gas, non-flammable gas, toxic and infectious substances, corrosive substances and foodstuffs.
- As to foodstuffs and food containers, you shouldn't pack these with Toxic or Infectious substances, toxic gas and corrosive materials. Strangely Radioactive is okay...
- Radioactive materials should not be packed with explosive materials, flammable gas, organic peroxide, flammable liquids, flammable solids, spontaneously combustible and stuff that's dangerous when wet... oh yeah and oxidising agents should be at least 3 metres away...
- Non Flammable Gas eg my scuba cylinders should not be placed near explosives! and should be kept away from organic peroxide and spontaneously combustible materials...
Oh and one other thing... don't pack lingerie with chilled fish... (long story)

I used to pick up big oxygen cylinders in the trunk of my Lincoln MkV. Someone pointed out that they should be transported vertically in plain sight (as law requires) since, in an accident if the neck snapped off it becomes a cruise missle as the 3500 psi of oxygen spraying out can propel the 100 lb cylinder up to 1000 yards.
After that, I transported them sticking out the sunroof. This was legal.
