my head unit getting overheated?

Ive noticed while playing my stereo my head unit gets very hot, or just the faceplate rather... and taking it off, it is very very warm to the touch. is this normal? i know if i leave the headunit off and just run the car without it it doesnt get hot at all. the next time i have some free time i am going to recheck the wires and make sure everything is okay, but can anyone suggest anything to me? i mean, other then checking to see the wires are okay is there anything else i can do. i dont want my headunit to melt down lol.

yes it's normal, as long as it doesn't shut off because of the heat
