HK bass buzz

I just got a used 2001 330Ci. The bass on the premium HK sound rattles and buzzes something awful! It appears to be comming from speakers behind the back seat. Calling it a buzz is not exactly accurate - it really makes a loud noise.

So . . . I took it to the dealer. Problem fixed - bass is rich and beautiful - at least for about 2 days.

Now I am right back to rattle city. I will make an appointment to go back but I assume that this is a common occurance. I know that the speakers are not bad because it was fixed for a short period of time. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Michael

Those big speakers rattle the package tray. go in the trunk and shove some foam between the metal and the tray.

If you can find them in your area Rainbow German Car Audio makes an IQ Line speaker set that will drop-in without any retrofit. They hand make these in Germany and have version that is customized for each 3 Series model. I checked their web page and they have the local offices listed

It was free because it is under warranty.

This guy who is recommending Rainbow speakers must be the one making a profit.

In my situation there was nothing wrong with the speakers they were just rattling the tray. If you are within 50k miles they should be fixed for free. If you are out warranty - maybe try the fix referenced above - shoving foam in the right place. Maybe try putting on some booming music and move your hand around to see if you can kill the buzz. If you can, you have found the place to put some kind of foam.

I need to go back and get it fixed again. I will let you know if the BMW dealership recommends anything different.

YEP :) I do make a small profit when I sell rainbow products at my shop but it's a good value... All I'm saying is that it's a great solution if anyone wants to replace the factory speakers....

Hey there...you can probably guess what I do for a living by my S/N. I can tell you that the H/K amplifier is a really poorly engineered, unstable, lowest bidder built POS.
I do not mean to offend, so please understand how much it irks me to have to tell people this. IC amps have no place in a BMW.
As an amplifier diagnosis, feed the speaker, in car, from a more reputable amp, whether car or home. If this means stringing 25 feet of wire from your reciever to the trunk, disconnecting the BMW amp and plugging into the speaker, get to it!
I think you will find the sound less equalized, but more robust.
Good luck on the fix!
Luke
