Calling Them Out?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum all.
I have a buddy with a 2000 VW Jetta TDI 5spd which he's lowered and added 18" rims to but no performance parts. Basically his car looks good and that's about it, if anything it's slower now from what he's done to it!
Anyways, i had him over to my place the other night and was tentatively giving him a tour of the Pontiac (i say tentatively cuz i haven't cleared away the last season's rust and really shined her up yet this year, she looks like hell right now) and i asked him if he wanted to race.
He kinda laughed and said no way, that his car wasn't a race car. Obviously mine isn't and i tried to persuade him but he was set that he'd lose, especially on the highway (which is the only place i think i could take him).
Any thoughts on how to coax him out? I think it'd be a great run if i could get him to go with it!
On a side note, i was challenged to a race by my little brother today; he drives an '89 bone stock tempo sedan with the 4 cylinder and automatic. What can i say? The kid's just bought his first car!
:iceslolan Sorry this is just really funny!
So i laughed and said 'sure, what the hell!' So we negotiate our way to to a quieter freeway 15 minutes out and merge on, him right behind me. My cell rings and i answer it...it's John on the phone and he says " i'm right behind you, and i'll flash my lights 3 times and if i can pass you i win, if i can't you win". I just laughed and hung up the phone.
So he flashed his lights, pulled out with (i'm assuming) his foot to the floor. I floor my own gas pedal and he gets starts getting smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror. I'm killing myself laughing at our idiocy as i slow down and he catches up. He keeps coming like crazy trying to do a fly by, so i floor it again, and his momentum and my acceleration put us about even for a few seconds 'til i start to pull on him, and again he gets smaller and smaller...
So yeah, that's my little story to accompany my question. I'm pathetic and strange i know!

Oh what it was like driving when you get your first car... Great times. That sounds like fun. But you really need to find a way to race that jetta. I've always wondered what kind of power they withold...

well i doubt the 18's slowed that jetta one bit since it is a turbo diesel. so its all low end. those things are for towing stuff, not for top speed runs.

Do this...
You: Man i raced my little brother and all the sudden my damn car started skipping. I think i might have messed something up i'm going to look at it today.
Him: Hum, what do you think it is.
You: Maybe the carburator, not that expensive i'll get a new one soon probably.
Then dont say anything about you racing him for a while. Ask him to come over and tell you what he thinks in a couple of days. Pull out 2 spark plug wire just enough to where its not firing right, then let him drive it and ask him what's wrong.
A couple days later ask him if he wants to race still, start talking shit about how your car could beat his not even running right (he will get PISSED) and then re-connect the spark plug wires. Damn i'm good. Peace. :smokin:

it is obvious to some people and alot of people don't realize it so someone has to say it. ive seen k cars outrun modiefied supras and ive seen civics outrun vipers. so as much as people argue that something isn't doable someone has to be the one to say it is

I've always wondered what the tdi could do. My friend has a duramax with intake, exhaust, and chip and it's fast. 14.4 last time at the track. Riding around in a 330whp and 700lb ft tourque truck is pretty cool. It totally changed my mind about diesels. If your going to have a big worktruck diesel is the way to go. 5 speed allison transmission and 20mpg not to mention the towing power. You should of seen the look on peoples faces when he brought it to the street races. When you here him load up that truck for his launch it puts a grin on your face from ear to ear. Anyways enough reminiscing you would think the tdi would be capable of some good power if the trucks can be as fast as they are.

TDI's can be uber quick...
there's a company in the UK that has one running with 1.8t's.
it's not hard...
add propane injection and nitrous, as well as freeing up the exhaust, and you're flying

Do the same thing to the Powerstroke 6.0L. Stock model in '03 from a stop is faster through the intersection then the '03 Mustang Mach 1.
Stock is 325 horses and 565lb-ft of torque. Not to mention the best transmission for the diesel trucks in the 3/4 tonne - 1 tonne class!!
Add intake and exhaust and the chip to the Ford, line it up against your bud's duramax and that'd be an AWESOME show!!
