Does anyone have subs in thier Takoma extended cab. I would like to keep the back seat available for passengers. My X/ Daghters mom has two tens and she is trying to find a place for them. If you have a audio setup for subs please tell how you did it or please post pics. Thanks

well if you want you can bring it in to a sterio shop and you can make the part where the rear seats fold down on to into a custom box. it may cost you a little but its worth it. you wont have the tool compartments tho. it would make it so the seats fold on to the top of the box. im planning on doing it myself to save room, i took out my rear seats tho. it just looks alot cleaner.

I have a 02 dcab w/ bucket seats. I found the console under the armrest/storage will take an 8" sub with a little work. I like the idea because I didn't change the look and diid not lose any seating. I fabricated a fiberglass enclosure. I talked to the guys at a local stereo shop and they wanted $800.00 so I figured I would give it a shot.. So far it has been pretty easy.

i put 2 tens in a regular Q logic box, in my extended cab, and just put them behind my seat on small back seats, i wired them thru the storage area under the rear seats, and left enough wire so that if i need to carry more passangers i could just put the box, in the bed and just re insert the wires, i aslo mounted brackets to the bed liner so it wouldnt slide arond.

hey, I have a JL Audio stealth box. It has a 10" sub in it and it hits pretty hard...it looks like an arm rest in the rear of my x cab. The price is between 4-5 hundred.

I looked into the stealthbox too...but couldn't justify spend $400-$500 for it...

truth is that with a great pair of 6x8's in the rear like the infinity kappas and a great pair of 6x8's in the front like the kenwood excelon and a high powered head unit or a good 4 channel amp....you dont need a sub in the tacoma cab.

I've got a '98 Tacoma Limited, and I found some dimensions in a magazine article and built my own boxes. The boxes actually drop right into where the factory rear speaker locations are. The only problem is that you can only fit 8" subs back there, and then if you want a 3/4" thick wood for the box, then you are limited on your selection of subs. I originally had a set of 8" Lanzars in there until I blew them, then I found a set of Rockford Fosgates that fit. I did actually have to shave the wood in the back of the box to make enough room for the magnet (because I used 3/4" plywood). The nice thing about it is that people get in and think theres no bass, they are very surprised and ask where the hell I put the subs. The panel grill is removed so you can see the actual location of the box. I put grills on so the speaker doesnt hit the inside of the panel. You cant see here but the box is actually pretty tall (around 13"). I dont remember the dimensions, but if anyone wants them, let me know and Ill pull a box out and measure.

I have also been thinking about adding a 8" sub to my 04 extended cab.
I am not going for the thump but more for the missing frequency that the stock system doesn't have. It would be nice to have some thump when I wanted it but it isn't the main reason.
I have been thinking about putting it under the fold down seat in the back so that I'm not losing any space or drilling holes all over.
I looked at the link Snobrdrblinkchik posted and I am considering it.
I would loose some space but I think I can be happy with it.
It also allows for a 10" instead of only an 8", as far as I have found, and I am relatively new to all this, you get better quality sound with a 10 then an 8.
Then I saw badboy916's post and wondered if that is all I need to do.
How does the range of frequencies compare to the stock 6 plus a sub?
How low can they go?
What are the four stock speakers or how do you take the paneling off in the extended cab to find out?

The '04 has a total of four factory speaker locations (in the extra cab), but '01-'04 have 6x8's. As far as how to get to it, Im not sure on an '04. On my '98 I had to unbolt both seatbelts from the sidepanel, unscrew the hangers, then unscrew the latch for the pop-out window. Once the screws are out, just use a trim tool to pop the clips out. You will also probably have to remove the front seatbelts mount to the floorboard so the trim has enough play to get behind it. If the '04 has a plastic panel that the speakers mount to (like the '98 does except its a 6 3/4") then you can probably do the custom boxes like mine. My truck sounds great with two 8's in the back. I listen to everything from rap to heavy metal to classical. Everything sounds good in there. I do also have a set of Sony Explod component speakers in the front. The seperation is phenominal, mostly due to the fact that the cab is smaller than that of a car, it makes system configuration a LOT easier.

I built a custom box to fit two 10 inch sony subs in my 1998 tacoma. The box still allows me to use the back seats. The top box is about .64 cu feet and the bottom is about .75
