A little insight please

Hey guys/gals,
I'm not a big neon connaiseur, but I'd like to know what would you need to do to a 1995 neon sport to make it get into the 13's. Because I have this guy at work that keeps telling me he has the fastest neon :loser:. Because I might be getting a 1987 Mazda RX-7 TurboII with 10 grand in mods...and would like to what times I can expect out of it. I know, I know I don't have a complete list of mods but the dealer said HKS turbo, big fat intercooler, intake, exhaust with 3" tip, racing clutch and about all I can think of.


P.S. As you can tell I'm not a big rotary connaiseur either. And on a side note, I heard that some people can get away with cheaper insurance for rotary's if they say they have a 2 cylinder engine :lol2:....Is this true?

a hell of alot thats all i have to say if i were you i wouldnt worry about him unless hes twin turboed and nos'd, but im not sure you should probably try to get a response from 209 neon and 1320, they will know.

He works where I work, so he's got a pretty descent sized wallet, considering he lives at home and all. Other than that he's got the intake, ECU chip or something, headers, giant ugly flaming exhaust, pulleys and I think that's it. I highly doubt he see's 14's but like I said, I don't know neons and their capabilities.

So the question is does his motor back up his mouth...

You say he has the thing chipped, headers, exhaust, pulleys?...do you mean a s/c or a t/c kit?

You're gonna win. The supercharger of turbocharger doesn't make a difference. You're running a larger displacement engine with essentially the same kind of boost if he does have a blower (or whatever) or not.

Thanks for all the info guys, I knew his car wouldnt be near 13's...even though im still contemplating about where he gets hs times because there are no tracks in my area :confused:. The rx-7 is not mine as of yet...it was a car I was looking to buy, but due to insurance increases, I do not feel like paying 400$/month for liability. Maybe I can work something out with the rents to lower costs. Ah well, it's a nice car, I'll posts some ipcs when I get home

Rax Kaz, his times are probably via human error. He's allowing about 30 seconds in his favor for the extra time it took him to make the stop watch work. :iceslolan

That's a good sized mod list...the neon's toast. BTW, 3KSL95, no one twin-turbo's four-cylinder engines... that's just not practical.

No one ever doubted a neon could run 13's. With enough money, you can get a neon hitting 9's probably... but in this case, it sounds like the guy is pure talk... all he's mentioned so far is the guy has:

That's probably not enough to bring him into 13's.

not it is not. Considering that it has one intake stroke per revolution it is the equivalent of a 2.6L 4 stroke piston engine. So it has more displacement than a neon.

Yea, all I said was that I'm doubting his car can hit 13's because of the little mods he has done to it. Other than that, let me tell you guys that I'm going this saturday to talk to the dealer about prices...and maybe, just maybe it will be all mine :)

but anyways
i have seen a few older neons run silly times on just nitrous, we are talking in the 12's. if he was a serious racer he could empty the car and drop it into the 2k pound range. if he did his engine right and has 200hp(i know its high but go with me) has a 50 shot, wich should be safe on those motors (not a neon person so i wouldn't know) and he knows how to launch the car then you could be in trouble. on the other hand if your car is running 30 pounds of boost and you have any idea how to stop the thing from spinning tires, you could make up the difference, maybee

If you guys can see, in the glove compartment, theres the equalizer as well as the ecu controls, turbo timer, it has a custom racing steering wheele, momo shifter, and the pedals have been changed...oh yea thats me in the car :icon16:

yea youngvr4, I went last night to talk and get to know the dealer but he was nowhere to be found, instead he left me their mechanic who didnt know jack about the car or how to deal prices. The old fart kept saying it has a turbo and a racing clutch, well thanks genius, I can read the paper too....but what really struck me hard was that when I asked him to show me out the turbo, he pointed out the intake :wtf:. Rest assured RedNeck383, that the club is going to be off the car if I get it. It has an alarm and keyless entry so no need for that piece of stick to be in there. The car is clean, except for a few dings here and there which I'm going to ask to reduce price for...let's all hope and pray that the dealer aint no schmuck and he will see a good offer when he sees one

While the engine in the Neon is a very capable motor he isn't going to be able to touch you without some form of forced induction. I don't see him being any faster than 15s with his list of mods. With the list of mods you have you would have no problem beating him. Unless he is smart and has N2O hiding in the intake pluming. I would say bet his fool ass as much as he is willing to and take him to town.

One thing I would change as soon as you get it is that crap foam HKS air filter. Put on a K&N or an Apexi, they filter better and give a little more power.

I have no worries about the neon, just rescently he told me it was a mistake and hes running 14.9. Which I find more believeable. He does not have N2O or any thing of that sort and I can guarantee it. I actually really like the car and it's overall appearance (I dont like the back end of it as much as the rest of the car...sorry to dissapoint yall but its not my taste). Anyways I will be returning there shortly and talk to a saleman this time and with a prent present, just so he doesnt think Im jacking him around. I'll keep all of you posted on whether I do or don't get it

man nice rx-7 i hope you get it but be ready to matain it.. rx-7 are the most realiable cars.. aslo look into the cooling sys.. and depending on milage you might have to change all the seals on the rotor's..but with those mods you should be seeing low 13's with the turbo 2 right form the dealer.. good luck and have fun

Its got around 85 000km on it. Everything is well taken care of, no previous accidents or any break in's. Yea it's got a lot of work already done to it, but I shall be returning shortly to get in touch with one of the salesmen....Im praying every night that I get this car

Yea I might be going tomorrow to talk with someone and get the bidding started. I'm almost sure it's going to be mine, the only thing here is the insurance, thats the only thing stopping me...and oh yea, a good deal :icon16:

Alright guys, digging in the vault here because I do not feel like starting a new thread. Well I went to the dealership yesterday with my mom and took a good look at it. I'm sad to say that the dealer did not know shit about the car (or any car if I might add). He couldn't even locate the timing belt, nor the spark plug wires. Ah well, could use it to my advantage seeing has how I can kinda bend the truth to lowerr prices. Well I'll be returning Saturday to make an offer and take it from there.



Oh yea, the bodykit is not in the best shape, would anyone know if they still make kits for the 86-91 rx-7's???

of course people still make kits, there's alot of companies that make kits for these cars...
(side note, there is no timing belt, as there is no crank/cam connection necessary on a rotary, so how could he locate it?)

That is the point I was making. I told him that the engine sounds rough (idling rough) and he said it's just the timing belt. And I said, cool, so where is it, but he couldn't show me because it's hidden under the engine :lol:. The mechanic and dealer don't know jack abuot that car, I hope I get it.

dude, sorry i took so long. anyway, mine ran 13.6 before it kept getting me harassed by police. anyway. 13's can come easily if you swap in a 2.4 from a stratus or a caravan, throw on soem bolt ons and wham, good driving, youve got 13's

that or you can go turbo, throw on some 23 inhc slicks, drop some weight, bam 13's

or if you wanna keep the single allmotor, then just lose alot of unnessecary <sp> weight and throw on alot of bolt ons. use slicks too

Yea your kinda late. The discussion was about if he could hit 13's with the list of mods that I provided (pulleys, intake, headersm exhaust and an ecu chip). He has no engine swap, no turbo, no N2O. Anyways thanks for the info

Damn... I wish i could find a TII for cheap.

My 87 base was 1k and i could get an entire TII drivetrain for about another 1k...

he is correct. look up the rotary engine at www.howstuffworks.com (http://www.howstuffworks.com) .
that should help you out.

the four stroke engine does not take any more fuel to run, it is just compressed.
