ok, heres some baseline info for comparison sake taken from motor trend. anyone with a 3si car will tell you that a 5.4 0-60 time is with a pretty conservative launch.
3000gt vr4
3.0 tt v6/awd/6spd
320hp/315trq
0-60 in 5.4
1/4 mile in 13.5 @ 101.6
.89 g lateral accel
camaro ss
5.7 v8/rwd/6spd
320 hp/345trq
0-60 in 5.2
1/4 mile in 13.6 @ 106.5
.87 g lateral accel

The 3000gt vr4 proforms better but I would still rather have a Super Sport Camaro for it's looks.

both cars perform better than the numbers you listed..
the camaro ss is faster, the vr4 handles better..
both cars are easy to mod
the ss will make a better drag racer without question
the vr4 can be whatever you want it to be, but there are faster ss's than vr4's and thats the plain and simple truth..
in the end.. id take the vr4.. im a mitsubishi fan, and i know all the ins and outs of the car.. not to mention im a BIG fan of turbo's and AWD..
but thats not to say that the ss is a bad car.. different tastes i guess..

I'd go with the SS. "There's no replacement for displacement". Although that's not necessarily true, it does help.
Besides, I prefer the camaro's looks.

I test drove a 3000 once and the biggest thing I noticed was no tilt! It was a pain to drive and a pain to get out of.

I'd probably take the 3000 of the two, but I'd take a ws6 over both of them:D

The VR-4 performs much better in accel then whats listed. It hits the 0-60 mark in 4.4 seconds not the 5.4. I would take the VR-4 based on looks especially the 1998 model in red.

How aobut, no? That's in the territory of cars like, Z06, 550, M3, 360, Cobra R, Diablo VT, Esprit V8TT, Skyline GT-R, ok you get my point. The VR-4 does 0-60 in about 5.4, that's just an average from different magazines.

didn't no the stats on the 3000gt were so low they talk like it's a vette. But the SS only hundreds of a second faster in the 1/4 then the Z/28. what is the price difference in the cars big point in real life.

the ss is only faster casue of maybe weight reductions
because the so called ram air hood is not functional
i checked this out at the dealership the air box is right under the ram air induction but its sealed off
on the firebird ram air its a different story
u can actually see the filter from the opening in the air box when u pop the hood

Actually, the SS Ram Air is functional. The air enters the rear of the box that you saw was sealed off, kinda a round about way but still ram air. Goto www.camaroz28.com and ask the guys there if you don't believe me.
As far as which is faster... Well, I know AWD cars can launch like crazy, whereas the SS is a pain in the ass to launch. A 60' time of 2.0-2.1 is good in a SS, while I'm thinking 1.9 or better is not to difficult in a VR4. But, the VR4 is heavier, and I've witnessed stock SS's running low 13s, even saw a Firebird Formula run a 12.92 stock! So I'd say SS for Drag racing, VR4 would probably outhandle, outcorner, etc. it though. Especially in bad weather.

I have seen a mitsu VR4 race a regular Camaro, and the Camaro got its ass kicked mainly becasue when the started the camaro driver did a killer burnout, while the VR4 made a quite chirp of the wheels and was gone. It really comes down to the individual drivers in this case, in the race i witnessed the VR4 driver had a good feel for his car. while the camaros driver thought for some reason that a burnout would make a difference, yeah as he found out...it makes you lose instead. if i had money on the race i would lay it down on the VR4, better handling, and equal performance.
Peace....

There is such a simple answer to your question. The VR4. Now if you want the parameters or reasoning going into that decision. That would take a little longer. But, hands down. No contest. Not even close. The VR4 is the superior vehicle.

I actually did see a VR4 and an 69 SS race yesterday. The SS killed it. But like YogsVR4 said, it is superior. lol ANd it did put up a good fight. I just wish I had my GT-R there. lol :D The SS and VR4 would have seen four round tail lights for about a sec and I would have been gone. lol ;) Life is good.

well lets see... i know alot about the camaro... and the easy mods that can be done, and dollar for dollar, for what is a less expensive car... the camaro would take it...
if you spent even amts of cash on each car, they would start to distance themselves... and dont think a camaro cant corner...
and on 60'times... i have a friend w/ an 11sec mustang on slicks that pulls down 1.6s... and he has 4.10 gears, so he spins the shit outta those things... so i think a camaro can be worked to a good time there... just one question... why is the 3gt "superior".... no reasons usually means you are biased...
its funny that this is a topic here though, b/c about two yrs ago, on an industrial pkwy, some kid in a 3gt took on a camaro, and the 3gt had some roadracing tires on it, and when they took a turn at about 80, the camaro (stock, with three 17 yr olds in it) took on a tree and lost. all three kids died.
the owner of the 3gt was arrested for some bullshit charge, but he has been known to race there b/c of the turn and his susp mods... the camaro kid saved the cash, and bought the car himself, and it was something like the second day he had the car... shitty if you ask me...
