I am the frustrated owner of an 89' camaro RS. Engine size is a 305E FI. About 2 months ago the car wouldnt start. I would stick the key in the ignition and I would get the normal tones, I woudl get dash lights head lights, and all the gauges on the dash would perate properly. I would turn the key and nothing. No clicks, or ticks of any kind. I would wait for about 5-10 minutes and then it would start. This happened for about a month if not longer. For about two weeks the car would start up without hesitation every time that I would turn the key. Then about 2 weeks ago, I got in the car and it would not start at all. And its been dead ever since then. Just tonight I have replaced a brand new ignition switch , and the car still will not start. I have a brand new battery that is as old as the car has been down(2 weeks). The starter is about 1 year old maybe a little longer. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE PROBLEM???

p.s. I dont know if this has anything to do with it as well, but my steering wheel was extremely loose, like its was tilting without using the tilt to do so. It was like its about to fall off the car. If you have help for me I would absolutely appreciate it.

Sounds like the switch is out of adjustment. So when you turn the key it's not moving enough to make contact. It could be because your tilt is loose to and it knocking it out of adjusment.

Did you try giving the starter a tap to see if that helps it start at all?

yeah the chip in your key might not be making
good contact, have you noticed if the
security light, lights up on the dash?

i had a 91 camaro and the vats gave me hell!
i would be driving down the road and the
car would quit, and the security light would
stay on, 5 minutes later it would start back,
i got rid of it, it was a 6 banger too. and
got my current rallysport with the v8.

lmao!!! dude, you are too kind, hahahaha, but anyway, back to the problem, sounds like vats to me. the loose columb probly made more tention on the vats wires, rubbed one through, and it finally broke. the symptoms you describe of perfect operation, then intermittant failure, then after 5-6 minutes (vats resets in 4 minutes after a false reading) it would start, and now not at all. ill bet dollars to cents the vats wires broke on the ignition lock cylender. gonna have to buy a new one, and new ignition keys. tear into the steering columb, after taking off the steering wheel, and get down to it. id only reccomend doing this if you have the right tools and know what youre doing. otherwise, have the dealership do it.
