For those of you who dont know as yet, ive began the first stages of my turbo conversion. To save repeating myself, visit my site at www.p11-gt.co.uk and click on updates. There you can monitor my progress which i try to update daily. I would have taken some pictures but i dont have the digicam at the mo. Hopefully get some up soon.

Dang P11GT,
Everytime I think your done for a while modding your car, you do something else.. makes me jealous

What I was gonna do is get a SR20VE and do all the standard bolt-ons then possibly add a turbo to it -- I think it would make one fast ass G!

I think the SR20VE will actually become a engine largely supported by the aftermarket.

Anyways, good luck with your turbo and I hope you are happy w/ it :)

Noticed you need an intercooler...

Call Peter @ Forge Motorsports... he's a really nice guy and know A LOT about DET's. I actually spoke with him today, he called me here in the US. :D

Anyhow.. they have good prices and a good intercooler to fit your bumper...

You want their front mount intercooler model 104. It is the perfect size for the bumper opening.. 24"x6.5"x3" core.

Hey thanks for that Brian, ive already had a reply from Wayne @ Forge and this is what ive sent him. Hes quoted me £270+VAT which isnt bad at all. I measured the space available and this is what ive come up with.

CORRECTION!! It wanst Forgemotorsports at all, it was Pace products that quoted me 270. Ive just had a phone call from Mike at Forge and hes beaten the quote and increased the intercooler thickness to 80mm for a mere £235 all in.

Could someone please add this intercooler info to the FAQ? If/when i finally go turbo it would be nice not to have to look all this info up again.

Thanks.

i was wondering, you have to take out the front reinforcement bar to fit the intercooler right? and you bolt it to the radiator?

oh ya, and please add it to the faq for future reference.

if you go with an intercooler which is 6.5" in height or less you probably wont need to touch the reinforcement bar at all.

When you need a bigger intercooler with more flow (for say a 300whp application) you will need to cut part of the bar.

The model which I was speaking of ( Forge Motorsports 104 ) will fit fine w/o mods.

Sweet, more people are adding turbo's to their G20's and the JWT kit should be coming out soon (like everything else they make lolz). This is going to make my turbo project a lot easyer because their will be tons of info by the time I start it. It's also great to just look at the pic's of turbo G20's.

Good Lord! Thumbs up, man, really thumbs up! It's so good to see someone doing a turmo conversion in Europe!

Are you going to use the Fast Road cams in the turbo motor?

P11GT
01-18-2002, 09:54 PM
ales - Ive already got some custom cams in, and they'll be staying in, cos i aint got the std ones anymore.

The intercooler will be located between the bumper and radiator. Theres a brace/bracket that goes fron the cross member to the front bumper which houses the air bag sensor, well the intercooler will sit below that brace. Thats why its only 6 inches high. But now, ive managed to get a price for a 80mm thick intercooler which should make up for the lack of height. Heres a 3D view of it.

Check if those custom cams have a big overlap. If so get some cam gears and dial out some overlap. Turbos don't like a lot of overlap.

Overlap in cams is when the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time. This can be an advantage to N/A motors but not really benifical to turbo cars.

so G, i'll try to get hold of the spec for mine, as they were custom, i dont know if they'll still have the data, but i'll try. I'll pass them onto you, let you have a look, cos i dont have a clue.

Ive bought the oil pressure gauge but i need to know how much psi the engine should be running at with the turbo. As its my first turbo of any kind, i dont know what to expect. Any clues anyone?

Good work mate! Best of luck to you.

What are you using for engine management?

Heres your answer, below is a picture of my old HKS filter and theres also the unichip, which will control everything.
Can anyone help me out with my following questions? Have a look at the picture below first, its arrowed to two pipes.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/354371FILTER.jpg

The arrow on the left points out the rocker breather pipe, which ive been told to reconnect to the low pressure side of the turbo i.e. behind the MAF sensor/ before turbo inlet. I could however just put a rocker breather filter on and not bother reconnecting it at all. Would this statement be correct????

The arrow on the right points out another pipe which apparently goes to the 'stepper motor' which controls idle????? This one i dont have a clue what to do with when installing the turbo. Where should this be?? pressure side or non pressure side??

Help anyone??

I believe you are correct on the first one. The one in question though I'm not sure of. Never looking into it yet. I guess I'd better find out also. :D

The GTiR pistons should be arriving within the next few days. Ive been told to use new oil on reassembling the engine, which is what i had planned, also, ive been told to change the oil after about 1,000 miles. This is because of the fine metal shaving caused by the new pistons bedding in. Is this true or just common sence. I suppose thats why dealer insist on a 1,000 mile oil change on new cars.

P11GT
01-24-2002, 10:41 AM
Well, ive been down to the dealers and picked up my pistons, well three of them anyway, the others still on order.

Ive had a word with a GTiR tuner and he says by fitting the GTiR pistons, i'll see 8.3:1 compression but however, since ive bought a 2mm metal gasket, it'll lower it further to 7.8:1 He assures me thats its fine and will just be similar to a tuned GTiR.

Any thoughts anyone???

hey mate, good work on the T conversion.

Are you having two projects running at the same time? I find it hard to follow as your last update you were talking about changing a T15 to a T28 using T3 compressor housing and in your very last paragraph you said you want to do it right the first time on the Primera.

P11GT
02-08-2002, 10:52 PM
yeah, sorry for the confusion.......
its just the one T conversion going on and thats the Primera. Its just that ive not long discovered that the turbo i originally had and wanted to fit, doesnt meet the requirements, so now im having one made to suit, namely a T28/T3 Hybrid with 360 degree thrust bearing.
