Hey guys, im setting up a performance parts upgrade list and i was wondering if you could have a look at it and lemme know if i should change one thing or another, or be better off not getting something or going with a different part.

K&N Air Filter (purchased)
3sx Aluminum crank pully kit (130.00)
3sx downpipe w/ race pipe (350.00)
DN Performance NA Intake Upgrade (200.00)
High Temp coated DOHC shorty headers (390.00)
-what is the difference between high temp coating and Jet Hot coating? it costs $200.00 more to buy Jet Hot coated headers seen here
http://www.3kgtmotorsports.com/index.php?page=Headers
Alto end clutch kit (80.00)
New Wires (145.00)
Iridium spark plugs (105.00)

All together this totals around $1,420.00 not including shipping and install charges, lemme know what you think

I would have assumed either the Base or SL sense he said DN performance NA Intake upgrade.

I dont know what to tell you man except the coatings are different because one insults heat better in the pipe and trys to keep it out of the engine bay better than the other cheaper coating.

And an $80 clutch kit, ive never seen such a cheap price for a clutch kit, you better make sure thats the enitre kit, sounds like you just may be buying a presure plate, or a clutch plate, not those plus a new throwout bearing. make sure you get all three, but most importantly is the clutch plate, stock organic plates go to hell fast.

its an end clutch kit (meaning im an ATXer) so thats why the price is lower i guess..... another question i had is will these upgrades provide a good base for a twin turbo set up? Also will i still need cat backs after these things are installed and can i get fitting catbacks off of any old vr4 parts?

so, its an automatic....so their is no clutch period, you must mean the torque converter? closest thing on an auto to a clutch would be a torque converter.....

But i would go ahead and do a straight VR-4 6g72 drop. the engine has different internals than the SL DOHC i believed, all forged much better, everyone I know just does the complete engine swap. And If you can find a vr-4 cat back, get it, but any other custum cheap cat back dual will be fine. But seriously go with the enitre VR-4 engine, unless you feel like replacing internals or fucking up a good block because of shitty rods and crank.

about how much would a vr4 swap run me?

(end clutch kit found here http://www.importperformancetrans.com/mitsubishiauto.shtml )

ok, let me clear up a few things, the end clutch is 4th gear (lucky for you i'm an atxer), the alto end clutch is a stronger 4th gear, in other words, less chance of it going out. I would add a high-stall torque converter to that list and a translab tl-175 shift kit to that list as well

i definitely like the 3sx aluminum pulley, it will help your 60 foots some as well as rev faster to redline

an aftermarket downpipe is definitely a good mod, no complaints on that

i would consider adding a custom catback exhaust (3 inch) to the car as well, i had mine done for $250 including the mufflers and tips. Check with your local muffler shop and see what they can do
OR
if you want to go the cheaper route, pick up a used vr-4 exhaust, for about $100, it gives a nice gain to n/a cars
also, if you dont have emissions, replace your catalytic converter with a test pipe

as for now, i wouldnt mess with the dn intake pipe unless your just going for show, does not really give any gains what so ever. I would just take off the intake resonator bottle on the stock intake pipe and leave it at that for a while.

Shorty headers could be a good mod as well, never really heard much about them, you could also try and port your stock headers as well, i'd do some research and compare both

Alto end clutch, a good mod, you can get it from www.plymouthlaser.com for $75 shipped priority mail. I would also add a translab tl-175 shift kit to the list as well, is $70 or $75, cant remember, but thats the best mod you can do to your tranny, it makes your transmission shift much harder and crisp, and has taken up to 1/2 a second off 1/4 mile times. And if you really want to get nasty, send your torque converter in to be a high-stall. I'm gettin mine done right now for $150.

As for wires, just get some accels from summitracing.com, i believe they are about $65

As for plugs, i'm gonna kill you if you pay that much money for a set of spark plugs. Instead, just go to your local auto store and buy some NGK coppers, i know at NAPA, they are $1.89 a piece, so you'll need six, so including tax, around 12 bucks. Reason for the cheaper plugs? Easy, copper is a better conductor of electricity then iridium, and therefore will net you a better spark which will give you the most power you can possibly get. The negative about coppers is that you have to change them out every 10K miles, but they are the best.

I think that right there will give you your hands full for a while

big help hotshot, thanks a ton man. I was pretty upset about the spark and wire price too, im glad you cleared that up for me, as well as the intake pipe, if im not going to see performance from a 200.00 piece of pipe then its not going in my car. Hotshot weren't you one of the ATX's to do a TT conversion? if so is there any way i could talk to you about that either in this post or outside of the forums?
Edit - also what benefits would a high stall torque converter present to me?

thanks again

As far as i know of, there were 4 ATX TT's total, i was the 2nd to do it to an ATX and like the 7th to do it to the car period. The first guy who did it totalled his car so mine is the longest living ATX TT, and there are two other guys, one guy just got his done so he's still working the bugs out. I've had mine done of just over a year now, wow, its been a year, doesnt seem like it. If you need to talk to me about atx mods, shoot me an IM on my board name on AIM
