Keyless entry remote/receiver

We have a '98 Volvo V70 wagon. Our keyless entry remote has been working intermittently. I have replaced the battery but it still acts up. Being an electrical engineer I opened it up and verified that all solder joints were OK.
I suspect that the intermittent part is the receiver in the car itself.
Could that be possible?
If I would like to inspect it where could I find it in the car?

Hey Max5959,
did you ever find where the Remote Keyless Entry radio receiver is located on your '98 Volvo V70 ?
I have the same car and I've been trying to locate the RKE radio receiver but to no avail.
I pulled out a module located under the driver's side dash behind the instrument cluster, but it's just the door central-locking module. Still no sign of the actual RKE radio receiver.
I've been told that the RKE radio receiver has the numbers of compatible remote FOBs that are compatible, marked on it. I want to buy a second remote FOB on ebaY so obviously compatibility is critical.
Any suggestions from anyone else heartiy welcomed.
Cheers...
