i've been looking at runing an atmisphere BOV with the GM MAFT conversion on the upper inercooler pipe for the last couple months, im not convinced its going to benifit my perfomance more so then using the GM MAFT on the intake. are their any benifits that might out perform one over the other? i know you cant vent to the atmispere (suppose to) with the GM on the intake, other then that are their any other benifits aquired from one of the setups that the other cant replicate, or compete with?
Is running Recirculation better then running Atmisphere?
another question i cant decide on: I have every intention on buying DSMlink, i bought an ecu from 1500 miles away, and had it ups'ed over a couple weeks ago. i understand if i buy the translator to use the gm maf, i'll have to set it to 0 while running dsmlink. i've only heard of a couple reasions to use gm maft, ones, for a couple hundred rpm quicker spool, two, run atmispere safely (upper pipe setup), and the other is to read the air more accuratly. becasue i have every intention of buying and running dsmlink, would it, for the sake of effecency, be worth spending nearly $400 for the gm maft setup just to run an atmispereric blow off valve, and spool 2-3 hunderd rpms quicker? im having a hard time contumplation wether or not its worth the investment. i would love some oppions. Thanks

The reason people vent to the atmosphere is because of 1 or 2 things. Mainly it's because the air you're dumping is hot. So basically you're just eliminating a lot of cold air. I've been told that you won't notice the difference but your engine won't heat up as easily.
Second reason for venting is because you are a ricer and you want your car to be as loud as possible.
I hope this helps out a bit. If you still have a hard time find the rest of your answers, do a search on the forums at dsmtuners.com

the real benefits of venting would be that you could run a SARD or TiAl BOV that is leak free, which is gong to be more important as you get into the bigger turbo setups moving tons of air. they only run on vented setups, so there is even more $$ involved for the BOV. and thinking that a bit more the value of being able to spool quicker with a bigger turbo is very valuable indeed.
if it means anything, Kevin runs a SARD BOV and a MAFt. [i think he is still on that setup] with DSMlink

The real reason to run MAFt is when your stock MAS isn't cutting it. To upgrade now would be only for a few reasons:
1. Can buy a good BOV
2. If your intercooler pipes blow off, the car will still drive.
As you can see, both of these reasons only REALLY apply to high boost/big turbo cars, so the only benefit you would see for a while is a little better flow and a louder BOV. Also, to upgrade to a GM MAS on a sidemount UICP would be fine, but personally I would only do it when i had a FMIC.
EDIT>> You could also use the MAFt to tune instead of needing a S-AFC until you get DSMlink. That may or may not be helpful depending on when you want to get the DSMlink.

Sure, right from the site by memory: "DSMlink is a datalogger and tuning tool in one"
It's software and a cable to hook up to a laptop so you can tune your car. Many more options than your standard S-AFC, like stutterbox, antilag, tons more. Very very valuable.

www.dsmlink.com, take some time and read all the links you can find. Good info in there. IF you buy one, you get access to a badass forum that is no BS.
If you are flowing less than 45 pounds/min of air (20g maxes out around there, to give you a reference point) the stock MAS meters air just fine. And you dont have to worry about calibration and that BS. If you move more air that that, you have to go MAFt. If you want/need to vent your BOV for whatever reasons (there's a ricer in all of us) you need the MAFt to make the ar run as smooth as stock again. If you have a laggy turbo, the spoolup benefits are well well worth every penny.
It is true that with DSMlink the best option is to set the MAFt to zero, or even better, calibrate it to the stock MAS. If anyone is interested in doing this I can write up some instructions. I did this last year. For those of you that know about the BARO signal problem with the MAFTs, I found it ;)
DSMlink and MAFt are two seperate mods tha should be done for seperate reasons, unless you are thinking of using the MAFt as your fuel contol device. But in that respect, you cant comapre the two. So they are still seperate mods. I suggest both together if possible.

Kevin do you suggest running the GM Maf on the Intercooler pipe, or on the Intake, after the FIPC?

i was thinking, if i do the GM maf on the upper pipe, i would fabracate a cai into the wheel well, right next to the side mount intercooler, (which will be coming out soon)

That's not uncommon. The advantage to running a blow-through MAF (after BOV) is so you can vent the BOV, and run the car after an intercooler pipe blows off, if ever. If you use it in place of a standard 2g MAS, you will only have the flow advantage.

so the blow-through is more versitile

Yes, in the sense you can vent.
