I have this same problem. It just started yesterday. I was hoping it was simply the relay, so I bought a new one and replaced the old one. It wasn't the relay. I'm trying to track down some wiring diagrams to see if I can track down the culprit. I suspect the signal switch.

If you read my post, it tells you the problem and how to fix it. Its not the switch, its the relay behind the switch.

This http://www.autoparts4chevy.com/trou...rs/id-2532.html does not work.
"If you read my post, it tells you the problem and how to fix it. Its not the switch, its the relay behind the switch".
Where is your post on this problem ?????????
What is the cost of the new turn signal switch and the relay in question in the socalled fix?
Are there any pictures available on how to do this repair.
In an earlier post by intimida (12-06-2003) There is a recall on the turnsignal.
Would be nice to have the information posted here.

I too have the same problem, when I apply the brakes it stops.

I have replaced the Flasher Unit under the glove box with no success. There must be a relay somewhere that I am missing.

Any diagrams or help would be appreciated.

Missionblazer your link is not complete and can't get there, can you expand on the trou...rs portion of the address.

Thx

The dealer wants $195.00 for just the turn signal assembly which includes the turn signal, wiring harness, tilt mechanisum + installation.
I tried to remove the column top cover with no luck.
I had the dash down, the bottom part of the column cover off and could see part of the turn signal assembly.
Can anyone tell me how to remove the column top cover without touching the steering wheel and air bag.
I am not a machanic but I to try to fix myown cars and trucks.
At this time I am just living with the noise.
I checked the recall list from the internet and did not see a recall on this problem for my Jimmy.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem?
What would happen if I shot some contact cleaner into the turn signal switch?

Hey All-
New to the site here because I'm having the same clicking noise on my 2000. I too have replaced the relay in the glove box, and to no avail. I had some smoke come from my steering column this past weekend...um...not good!?!? Any Suggestions???

If replacing the relay didn't work, more than likely the turn signal switch is bad. You can do a search in the Blazer forum and get tons of info on it.

A new switch is about $140 at Rockauto.com, seems to be about the cheapest place to get them, but look around first.

Thanks for the pointer!
Glad to hear it's only $140 versus the original $300 I was originally told (by the guy who re-built my transmission when it lost 2nd, 4th, and Reverse at 62,000 miles!!!) From the sounds of it, this is something any mechanically inclined person can do, right? Perhaps, just removing the lower portion of the shroud on the column and getting the replacement done?

Anyone have any explanation for the smoke that streamed out of the hazard switch area, then out of the wiper/indicator lever area?

Replace the flasher module.

I just helped a guy with this las week and that fixed it.

To test, swap the hazard module over to the signal flasher spot to check first.

if it is the turn signal switch its not simple you need to pull the steering wheel, easy for me, maybe not so easy for a novice. manely because you have an air bag in the wheel.
if its just the flasher relay it is simple and i would start there.
