i've got a 97 z71 and i want to increase my gas mileage. i've already put flowmaster exaust on it with air aid air filter and a 1inch spacer is there any thing else i can do to improve it?

I was also wondering what size engine and rear end you have. Without knowing what it is, your MPG might be near as good as it gets depending on your setup if everything is running good.

What size are your tires? 245 are the best for good gasmileage

I have got the perfect solution. Just go out and buy your self a Toyota hybrid. It might top out at 60 and take it two days to get there but just look at the bright side you will be getting 60 to 70 miles to the gallon. LoL

Avoid hard acceleration, keep the vehicle serviced regularly (change the oil every 3000 miles, change the air and fuel filter regularly, keep the tires at the proper inflation) and if you've never changed the plugs and wires, do that now, especially the plugs.

I drive a 1996 gmc ext.cab 5.7l. I travel at 70mph I like to keep the rpm's at 2000 to 2200.I have just about the same setup as you.I have the spacer.K@n filter,home aid air induct and vortec duel 2 1/2 inch exhaust. I am getting around 22 to 25mpg. That is with a visor and no box cover. But it is just 2 wheel drive.

I would like to know how you are measuring your mpg. My o4 sorento with a 3.5L 24v v6 doesn't even get that kind of mileage on the highway. I keep track of every time I fuel my vehicles so I can chart trends when my mpg's start to change. I've always tracked every vehicle that I've owned this way so I can tell someone with absolute assuredness about my mpg's. I'm not trying to start a flame but even my 99 silverado extended cab with the 5.3/auto/3.42 rear end never saw mileage like that either.

I have a 98 Z-71 with auto and 3.73 gears and if I run at 65mph it will get 19mpg and driving the freeway to work if I stay with traffic doing 75-85mph it is getting 16-17mpg. These are not trip computer figures they are actual miles divided by gallons figures and not just one time either. I believe the person with the 2 wheel drive is getting 22 without question and I can maybe believe 25mpg on occasion because I also have a 92 Z-71 with 3.42 and it has gotten 21 mpg. Both trucks have been owned since new with no mods and the 92 has 225k with a slight decrease in mileage and the 98 has 178k and still gets the mileage it did new. To many people are misled into thinking smaller cars and trucks always get better mileage and it is not true. I used to have a cavalier Z-24 with a multi-port v-6 with a wopping 150 hp and it only got 27-29 at best and a 385 hp v-8 corvette can get 25 or better.

2004 5.3, auto, 3.42, bets ever was 20mpg, usual is 18-19 doing an 80 mile round trip commute at about 65-70mph. Only mod so far is a gibson super truck exhaust. My 2000 V6 monte carlo SS barely saw 25mpg, and my 2002 S-10 with auto and 4.3 was 19-20mpg, so I'm happy overall with 18-19 from a v8 fullsize 300hp truck.

Thunderbolt my best highway mileage with the sorento running 80mph was 19.63 on a recent trip across FL on I-10. I'm just trying to get clarification on the methodology of how the previous poster figured out his mpg's. I've spoken to people before who've boasted about excessively high mpg's and when confronted about how they determined their mileage they shrug their shoulders. You are also absolutely right about some smaller vehicles not having better mileage than some larger vehicles. Like I stated before I'm not trying to start some junk just looking to clarify how his mpg's were determined.

My 92 Silverado, 350, 4WD, .342 rear end, and auto averages 18.3 mpg. It usually will get roughly 330 miles on 18 gallons of gas, which comes out to 18.333333 mpg. That's what my truck usually gets, of cousres sometimes it dips into the 17s (but never 16), and sometimes it goes into the 19s, and has got 20 on two occastions (this is being driven roughly 60-65 mph, in eastern Ky--have mountains and hills--on 93 octane--the only mod is Flowmasters cat back exhaust-and I do have a bed cover)

It might also be getting low gas mileage because of fast acceletations because you like how your exhaust sounds. This wastes gas like no other. Also, look into getting some synthetic oil. Check out the stuff called Royal Purple. It's some good stuff. Good Luck!

i have a 2000 with the 5.3 (stock) and I can usually get 16 to 19 mpg. My best was 525 miles on one tank. I usually can get 420 miles to a tank.
