Nissan, camshaft position sensor, codeP0011

I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder that would sputter and fail to gain anywhere above 2500rpm. Upon further examination, with a code reader, the codes detected a “P0011 Cam Position Actuator, Bank 1”. I then replaced the left side (passenger side) cam sensor. The vehicle has then performed even more poorly, to the point where it does start, but doesn’t maintain idle rpm’s. I’m aware that there exist two cam sensors. Do I need to replace both? Is there a test that proves the sensor’s performance? Or is there more to this dilemma than reading the “codes”? The vehicle has no more than 80k miles and is maintained periodically. Thanks.
