The folks in Cheers & Gears have obtained info on most of GMs '05s already, and it appears that both the M/C and the Imp are getting "massaged" front and rear ends for '05. Which means speculation about new versions of both for '06 isn't a given any more.
IMO, I don't believe that the Imp will be changed for '05, just the M/C. For '06, the Imp will be HEAVILY redesigned on the current platform. This would answer the question about what happens to the M/C for '06?, and also satisfies GMs promise that the '06 Imp will be the 10th of 10 new cars in 20 months.

They've got to keep the Monte.

No, they won't. Both the '06 Impala and Monte are scheduled for unveiling at the LA Auto Show in early January. Both are "mildly massaged" versions of the current cars, to tide them over for a few years until they switch to the RWD Zeta platform for '08-ish. They should be instantly recognizeable.
The top-line versions, however, will get V-8s, so there is SOME good news.

ok sorry. LAST I heard it was 06 for RWD. But that was a while ago, from Car and Driver mag. Things change all the time. That's too bad though!
