Alarm/Door Lock Problem - 91 Cherokee

If anyone could help me, I'll much appreciate.
My Cherokee ('91 Briarwood) was damaged when an old man didn't see me and pulled out in front of me, causing front end damage - the old man's insurance company totalled my Jeep, so I bought an '89 which was a junker, used the body parts to fix my '91. On the road again.
Problem is that once I lock the doors, I have a heck of a time unlocking them with the remote (as in, pushing the button until doomsday - one day I stood outside for an hour pushing the button - yes, I bought a new battery for the remote just in case *grin*). If I just unlock with the key, well, the alarm goes off and I stand there pushing the remote forever until I manage to get it to go off.
Currently, I'm driving around and not locking the doors. Not so safe.
Suggestions? Comments? Tips?

No. It's the one that came with the Jeep.

i have an aftermarket alarm and the same sort of thing happened to it. It turned out to be a short that fried the alarm.

I'm guessing when it fried the alarm, you could still lock your doors? That's what I'm trying to do - get to where I can (maybe disable something?) lock my doors without the alarm going off.
Appreciate your input!

it had to be replaced, luckly i had a warrnty and got to relax while somebody else did it. i got my whole alarm system for 190.00 installed and there were cheaper ones avalible so you might want to invest in a new alarm
