How to replace the alternator?

I welcome your tips and suggestions as
to how replace the alternator in a 1996 GEO
Metro, 3 cylinder 5 speed.

The most expensive alternator was a
new [name witheld] for $ 280 and the
lowest for $ 130 remanufactured from
[name withheld]. {If the moderator
says its OK, I'll post names.}

I have the service manuals and they
don't say much. I think the biggest hassel
will be corroded bolts and getting to
tight places. Already planning to buy
ramps and creeper.

Right now I have a short 20 minutes
of driving each day and just charge
the battery each night. I turn off the DRL.

TIA

P.S. I bought my 1996 GEO because of
the 45+ MPG and how well the 1989 GEO
ran. :2cents:

Might not be the alternator. Metros have a bad habit of burning the wire going from the alternator to the fusebox under the hood. Try running an 8ga power cable straight from the alternator to the + battery terminal and see if it charges. I've never seen a metro alternator go bad.
