Cleaning Rubber seals

Cleaning Rubber seals I am trying to find a product that will clean and condition the rubber seals around the target top of my vette, without causing the rubber to eventually dry and crack. Any helpis appreciated

i read this one in a great book years ago. the answer is brake fluid. it has rubber conditioners which are needed to keep internal diaphragms flexible. i have used it on door rubber hardened by the arizona sun and it brings them back to life and lasts for years. i carefully apply it with a paper towel, let it soak for 15-30 minutes and then wipe it off. don't let it touch any paint though. i have reconditioned many parts in this way, including o rings. often during older part disassembly i routinely soak or wipe rubber parts to prevent drying and extend their life.

WOW. That is great. I will try it. What do you think about putting it on tires? Aren't they rubber of some sort?

yeah, i've used it on tires, but if they're really dried out it doesn't have much of an effect. i also used to regularly put it on radiator hoses but it didn't extend their life, although they looked and felt better. then i found out that hoses rot from the inside out.
