Sunroof Won't Close

Hello, I have a 98 sunfire I just bought and the sunroof wasn't working. I took it apart and discovered that somebody disconnected the power wires to the motor. I plugged them in and tried it out,,,,it opened perfect but would not close. I took the motor and mechanism down and watched it when I pressed the button. I opens fine but does not stop for the vent postion but when you goto close it the little green counter inside only goes one revolution around then stops. Do I need a new mechanism counter or the long thin black box controller?
