Hey y'all, My buddy in NJ (who I've never actually seen his car so bare with) is having some trouble. He's got a 96' Civic DX and just put in a VTEC motor... not sure if it's a z6 or b16 though. Anyway, here's the problem... he says he's got a wiring problem or something whereby his low rpm driving well, for lack of a better word, sucks, yet his vtec rpms are sweet. I'm guessing here since I haven't lived in NJ for over 10 years, but you can't drive around in VTEC all the time in traffic, well, maybe... haha. Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody knew of something he might have botched up in the wiring. I'm not sure if he did a OBD0 to OBD1 conversion or even if he needed to. I know it's a long shot but any suggestions or comments would be welcome cuz I really want my friend to come to SC to visit before he kills another car. Thanks.
PS - I noticed I had some trouble starting my car this weekend, come to find out the ignition ground to the chassis came loose, yet the car seemed to continue to run. I wonder if those super duty stainless steel ground straps from the valve cover to chassis and to the battery have anything to do with that. All fixed now. Also, I put 300 or so miles on my new clutch and I figured it was time to open it up... whiplash... hehe :smokin:

I guess nobody has ever had this problem before. It doesn't really make much sense to me either. How can a car get into high rpms if the low rpms aren't operating sufficiently? I'm just wondering if anybody else has had this problem before. Thanks.

I thought it was the timing too. It does it all the time... hot or cold. He's still driving it cuz it's his daily driver. The motor was installed by family mechanics but who knows?
