My Dad has a '97 Escort, we just rebuilt the head, changed the gaskets and everything, we knew how to align the head to TDC (top dead center) and yet found nothing on how to align the block and pistons for TDC. So my question is when you align it to TDC, is it when the No. 1 and No. 4 pistons are at the very top as high as they can go? Or am I wrong? Someone please respond soon, I need the information as soon as possible...thanks in advance.

If you look at the timing belt pulley on the crankshaft, there is a little notch, there is also a notch on the block itself, just above the pulley, align them and ur at TDC.

Yep, what he said, line up the notch under the crank pully. And yes TDC is when cylender #1 is at the highest point.

All righty, thanks a whole bunch you guys. Didn't want to put the thing back together with just guessing, it would have more than likely been putting around town...

So to make completely sure, TDC is when the No. 1 and No. 4 pistons are at the very top, correct?
