Weird Amp/Power Question

I have a Kenwood (#KSC-WA8, 30watts x 2 RMS) amplified dual voice coil subwoofer (5 years old, but never had a problem) in my trunk and had it installed back in January and it's been working fine until last week, when it stopped working. The power light on the amp/subwoofer no longer lights up so at first I thought I might have blown a fuse.

So I checked the inline fuse (20amp) on the power cable near the battery (Rockford Fosgate 100 watt amp kit) but it was fine. Then I checked the fuse on the amplifier/sub (20amp) which was also fine.

I just figured the Kenwood tube was getting old and maybe it just died on me so I picked up an Alpine amp (#MRP-T220, 70watts x 2) and an 8" Bazooka tube on sale and put them in my trunk. But I still don't get any power to the new Alpine amp either. So I borrowed a voltage meter and tested the power cable and it lit the guage right up.

What's going on here?

The only thing I can think of to do now is to run a new set of cables from the battery and try out the two amps again to see if they still work off a new set of cables? The Rockford Fosgate amp kit that I have in right now is only 5 months old, so I'm stumped...

Anybody have any ideas on what could be happening?

my guess would be either a bad ground or bad power wire. when you ran the meter across, it came up fine, because the meter doesn't draw any current. but when you try to run current through it, the amp can't draw enough/doesn't have a good enough ground, and so stays off. i've seen it on a JD 3020 starter button ;) just my :2cents:

My guess would also be the wire or bad ground. Try the cable thing and check it out

Check The Ground Wire Or The Remote Wire. To Check For Ground Wit A Test Light Just Connect The Alligator Clip To The Power Cable And Test The Black Wire Which Is Ground It Should Lite Up. U Dont Need To Run New Wires If U Checked It, Or If U Could Get A Voltmeter They Usually Have A Way To Check Continuity On A Wire. Just My Thoughts

It was a faulty ground. When I had the wiring installed (Best Buy f**ckers) it worked fine for a few months. We tested everything with a voltage meter and everything was coming up fine. Then we checked the ground and it was connected to a nice solid screw with a ring terminal in the trunk, but the metal chassis was painted - so we scraped off a bunch of paint and it works fine now.
