1999 Ford Escort Front Brakes

:banghead: Does anyone know how to remove the brake rotors from the front of a '99 Ford Escort Sedan. I have done my share of brake work but cannot get the rotors off to replace them. Do you need to remove the axle nut to remove them? I am at my wits end.

You have to remove the callipers, then tap the rotor lightly all the way around with a hamer. They should pop right off.

Tried that before the post. Wouldn't work, I don't know if they are rusted on or what!

I know this is an old topic but I have same issue. The rotor actually broke and is still attached to the trans axle. Any suggestion would be great.

I have a 92 Escort, whose rotors were both on so tight that I had to use a pair of large C clamps and a heavy steel bar, to exert a lot of outward pressure on the rotor(with the bar bearing against the front lip of the hub) , then to heat it with my oxy-acetylene torch briefly around the center area, where it is a tight fit over the hub, before it came off. When it finally did come off, the pressure exerted by the C clamps cause the rotor and my clamps to fly about 3 feet across the grass; and with a loud Clang!
Before I put the rotors back on, I cleaned off the corrosion from both surfaces with a file and emery cloth.

Thanks guys. This thread is old, but it's good of you to let us know about how to get the rotor off. When they put salt on the roads, the rotors get rusted to the axle flange. This will help somebody I'm sure.

For the rear drums, I coated the hub-contact surfaces with the silver anti-seize lubricant. Perhaps you all can do similar for the front rotors.
