Subwoofer Question

Ok with DVC (dual voice coil) subs, i know you can wire the - to the + on the other coil, but does that deplete any powere? can you wire each coil up to a seperate amp? because im considering getting the new Audiobahn 2000w sub and any 2000w amp is like $1500+, and i dont wanna pay that much. well thanks in advance.

If your going to get a sub rated at 2000 watts, your going to want to put at leased a 1000 watts to it or you will be bottle necking your system.
In other words you will be starving your sub of power.

you probalby could but theres no reason. Id just put one 1000w to each sub
you would have plenty of power that would hit hard

Dont run one amp to one vc and a differnt amp to the other vc, it will never be equil like its supposed to be unless there linkable amps like ones offered by Cadience. When you wire + - you will drop the ohm rating witch will in theory make your subs hit harder if your speakers and amp are rated for the ohm rating. If you run + + you will retain the same ohm rating as hooking it to say a svc speaker.

If you taking about hooking the subs together, yes you can do that if their dual voice coil. Doing that will lower the ohms and hit much much harder.
Thats how I have my subs hooked up.
2 10" JL's running off a 250 watt mono block amp @ 2 Ohms stable.

If you plan on doing that you will still need about 1000 watts.
The rule of thumb is if you decrease the Ohm load in half, the output power will double..

I could be wrong, but thats what I've been told in the past.

Nope the subs have to be dual voice coil, and your amp will have to support running 2 ohms stable.

alright, damn! i was hoping i could do that to get these things to hit harder, do u have any options on what to do to make them hit harder??

Put more power to them. Look up the Specs on the sub and get a amp that fits the subs RMS rating.

Make/buy a ported box and tune it really :naughty:
big difference over sealed just not as good Sound qaulity. Also sealing subs need more power than if you were to go ported. Ported subs recuire less power as opose to sealed. im guessing you have sealed enclosure.

so with DVC there's 2 places on the sub to hook up the wires..
can you create an MS paint schematic of how to hook up all four of the sub hookups (2 subs) to run bridged mono, and for 4 ohm subs would that make 1 ohm or 2 ohm load on the amp?

As for the Sealed / Ported box. You need to read the specs and see what it recomends. If you put a sub rated for a sealed enclosure into a ported box, it's gunna sound like shiat. You will also get better sound if your box is the correct size. All subs need a different amount of cubic air room in order to produce the bass frequencies correctly.
