I get a lot of vibration when my car is in idle, whenever i put it in drive or reverse i get even more vibration mainly in the steering wheel. All of this occurs when i have my foot on the brake.

I have a 94 Accord and my car was doing the same thing and it was the motor mount.

I have that problem too but my mechanic asked how could there be any problems with the motor mount? I didn't know what to say to him so I just agreed.

Worn motor mounts seem to be somewhat common on high mileage/older hondas

And if your mechanic said what you said, he's a dufus (to put it nicely). The left motor mount is quite a contraption. If you have auto trans, it's even got a vaccum connection (presumably to "pump up" the damping effect under load?) It's got plenty in it to go wrong (eventually).

does anyone have a good description of how to change the vacuum motor mount?

I notice you did not mention having the timing and balance shaft belts changed; therefore i doubt what I have to add is the problem, but worth reading. I had these belts plus the water pump changed on my 91 accord and when i got it back it ran like a loud 89 daytona. Vibration at idle and clear through the rpm band. I took it back to the garage twice with the same excuse. They kept telling me that it was the engine mounts. My only concern was that they were not bad when the car went in, so why would they be now? So I took it to another garage and they looked at it to find out that the balance shaft was out 1 complete rotation. Then they told me the other garage was full of sheisters. So i do not go there anymore.

Moral of the story: Have a good mechanic do that type of work, not sheisters.
