Theft light flashing - can't start?

The theft light is flashing on my 2000 SE so I can't start the engine. I tried both sets of keys and the same thing happens. So assuming the chances are slim that both keys haven't lost their programming, what else could it be?

Thanks

Nothing, you have to get the keys reprogrammed. It may be a fault with the PATS module but it sounds like the keys got erased. :sunglasse

Turns out that it wasn't exactly in Park (a tiny wee bit out of Park) when we were trying to start the engine. I know that's probably hard to believe but it's true! As soon as we shift out and back into Park it starts.

Could this be a sensor problem with the gears?

Thanks

The only sensors that would give you a problem would be the transmission range sensor or the shift interlock. But I think it may have just been that the shifter needs to be firmly in it's resting or park position. Good that you got back on the road.
