me vs. 2003 Jetta Vr6 5-speed

Okay me and my buddy were just cruisin around town when I see a guy from Ultimate Car Audio and his pretty new Jetta Vr6 pass me....I thought that he might like to play so I followed him onto a side street and sure enough he punches it....I chase him to about 100 mph and I'd have to say I lost about 2 additional carlengths to him in addition to the 2 he already had on me from being in front of me. We get to a stop sign and I follow him onto another long side street and sure enough he gets on it....I get on it too but I spin my tires a lot and he pulls a couple of carlengths immediately.....it was pretty much the same story, and I didn't really start pulling back any ground on him until I hit about 90 or 95 mph....we got up to about 105 and he was pretty much the same distance in front of me. Man those things are fast! I had to hear about it all night from my buddy "you got beat by a freakin jetta you pussy!". Oh well, I would have liked to have a side by side race so it would have been a more fair comparison, but oh well, just wasn't to be. :disappoin

Don't worry about being smoked by a Jetta, i can't out run most jettas in my own car like that! Speaking of which, i've never heard of the Jetta VR6...what is it??

If you hadn't spun your tires, and ya'll had been side by side when you'd started, i'd say you'd have been pretty even, with you eventually winning. The maximas, especially my faviourite year 2000s!! have a little more oomph at higher speeds.

One way or the other, nice run!

Yeah, I could tell it was a VR6 because it had the factory 17" wheels and the chrome "VR6" badge on the rear decklid. Landyacht, "VR6" refers to volkswagens narrow-angle V6 that was first used in the Corrado in 1993. Depending on the year, the Jetta VR6 can make anywhere from 178 to 201 horsepower. It doesn't sound like a lot, but when you consider that the jetta is a relatively small car, it'll get up and move a little with that much power. I think he may have had an aftermarket exhaust, the chrome tips did not look like the stock volkswagen exhaust. My car is lighty modded, I have CAI, axle-back HKS exhaust, crankcase ventilator, shift point re-programmer, and I use full-synthetic motor oil, that's about it. The thing that kills me is the automatic slushbox.

yeah but those vr6 are no joke, quick little things i tell ya. before is seen them move i would have never thought it was quick, they just don't look fast but they are. though i didn' think they were faster than a maxima. your maxima v6 or a 4?

street_racer thanks for the head up. Duh on my part!

I thought VR6 may have been some perfmance model jetta, if it's just the straight up V6 jetta, i know what we're talking about!

It has the VQ-30DE V6......stock specs are 222 hp 217 ft/lb torque.

They are fast, but

There is a 2004 jetta model called the GLI, it has the same VR6 engine, it just has some cosmetic stuff to make it look sportier, I don't think there is anything done performance-wise though.

I love my maxima. Kinda wish I'd taken the time to learn how to drive a standard, or waited a couple of years until they started putting the 3.5 V-6 engine in the maxima, but I wouldn't change a thing about it. 2nd gear pull in the car is quite impressive, and it will cruise doing triple digit speeds all day. The only thing is with my automatic, 3rd gear is so tall that it loses a lot of its acceleration after 80 mph, which is what the car maxes out at in 2nd gear. But it handles great for a 4-door sedan, has a unique look to it (gotta love the smoke tinted tail lights) and it has a back seat to boot. :sunglasse

Really? That's a whole 1/2 second faster than me, damn.

the 3.5 V-6 engine in the maxima

Don't bother, the 3.0L is a much more exciting car in the straight line, unless you're comparing the automatic 3.0 to the 6-speed 3.5L...if you do that, then the newer Maximas are a bit faster.

But for true driving excitement, the 2000 3.0L is my pick of the bunch; mainly because Nissan is the only import car i'd drive, and even then, it's gotta be a Maxima!!

I dunno it seems that on maxima.org, mod for mod the 5th generation 3.5L maximas are on average about 1/2 a second quicker in the 1/4 mile than the 5th generation 3.0L maximas. I don't frequent that forum much anymore because of the bias towards the 3.5 maximas. On that forum, the consensus is that 3.5 maximas are all world-beaters, whereas the 3.0 maximas are slow as piss, it's kinda sad.

the 3.5L Maximas are definitely the fastest from the factory, but the generation previous to yours(streetracer) is not far behind. I'm speaking of the 3L Maximas with the rectangle taillights.

And dude.. it's time for a highflow y pipe :icon16:

I would like a y-pipe very much, only thing is it would more than likely cause me not to pass smog...stupid california emissions crap.

So keep your old stock one and put it back in when it comes time to smog the thing. The $100 or so it would cost is well worth it for the crazy gains a y-pipe can give you on those things.

The cheapest one they sell for my car is by warpspeed performance and it's 200 bucks.....they claim a 20 hp gain, whether that's to the wheels or the crank I don't know, but it is significant either way.

Aren't the VR6's supposed to be faster than the 1.8T? I mean they have slighty more power with presumably a lot more torque, and 2 more cylinders. I don't know though, I've never seen a comparison.

yes they are, you should race the 1.8t and then the vr6 golf its even faster then the jetta due to weight
