so im in the market for a new car i was recently in a accident (thursday) i dont really remember what happened but i remember waking up on the side walk with some ppl around me i guess i hit a hit tension poll at like a 100mph needless to say there is no passenger side at all from what i was told i never got to see my car , im actually very very lucky to be alive right now but back to the question
what is your opinion on the two differnt camaros i was thinkin of goin with a 2gen for a change , atm i have no money but i will stick with a camaro cause i just love them too much
any pros on cons on the two differnt models
oh and if i get the car out of impound i will be parting it out cause i dont have room for it and i need the money really bad..

I like the styling of the 3rd gens better. Especially the irocs, but if I were looking into a 2nd gen I would check out the early 70s models with the corvette looking rear tail lights. Those are nice.

so you killed one of our babies once, and now you want us to trust you with another one?????? lol. well, sounds like you need help keeping the car on the road, so i would suggest a third gen, the second gens they dont handle so well ;) but if your gonna keep trying to kill tension wires, then get a second gen, just so that there are more third gens still on the road.

I have a 71 camaro and it handles like a champ u just have to get used to the weight distribution. I would go early 70's they kick ass I would never go 3rd that is just me.

2nd GEN!!!! An Early 2nd Gen only 70-73! NO EMISSIONS CONTROLS!!! you cant argue with that.

are there conversions for the tail lights i really like the ones on the early 70s
matt11583
05-18-2004, 05:14 PM
personally i like the 3rd gens. i think they look a little better. but like vettemaan said, get an early 2nd and get antique tags. alot easier w/out emissions.

you would have to buy the whole rear pannel to change the lights which is 150 bucks then the lights which is proabably another 100, if your not gonna get a 70-73 to start with ide recomend a 3rd gen
mike123

im gunna get a recycler and check out the prices on the but what is differnt in teh 74-81 just the tail lights? , another reason i was thinkin 2nd gen is cause it might be easier for me to work with less comps and stuff ?

from 74 - 81 different laws went into affect , it killed the look of the car and the performance

They were built before all the crazy restrictions were put into place on emissions. So you should be able to get away with next to nothing as far as emissions goes, just whatever came stock with the car.

if its going to be a toy, get a 2nd gen. they are different (eye-catching). can't beat the power potential of a big block. it will be a lot more fun than a 3rd gen. Although they are fun too.

Mike123: I dont know if you are still in the search for the ultimate ride. well, i own a 78 camaro type lt. it isnt nothing fancy, but they are a great platform for a build up. i know that the 78 has a lot of the emission control garbage on it, but it is now over 25 years old so i dont know about your state but in VA. if the car is an antique and you get the antique tags there are no more inspections. so the emissions dont matter anymore. some more pluses about the car are that they are comparably cheap. they dont handle all that well, but with upgarded bushings and sway bars it should dial right in. they also offer big engine bays as opposed to the 3rd gen camaros. you can put into from a 502 to a 350 in there. so i would go with the 2nd gen, but i am partial. hope that is helpful.

i know were not talking about first gens but lemme be the first one to say that i love how mine handles. oh and i would go with the 3rd gen if i didnt have my 1st gen.
oh and with emmisions. i dont know how it is in other states but in wisconsin as long as you have classic plates you dont have to worry about any emissions. the plates are 160 bucks tho.

What? are u serious the late 2nd Gen were built for handling like the 77 Z i got. Because it was during the gas crunch so they were decreasing the HP and focusing on the handling of them.

3rd gen all the way. Better looking, Better Handling, Better performance (350 L98, Firehawk or that 20th Anniv Trans am turbo V6) I think the 2nd gens were ugly and slow as hell ( after 73)
