I bought a battery first. The car will run until battery goes dead. I then charged the battery and started the car. When I disconnect the battery cable, the car stops running. I noticed the battery light on the dashboard was on. I then went out and bought another alternator. The battery light on the dashboard doesn't come on any more but when you start the car and disconnect the battery terminals the car will still stops running.
I had a 91 Saturn that wouldn't charge. I later found a blown fuse. I replaced it and the battery started charging up. I couldn't find a fuse in the Escort that served the same purpose.

Thanks! The third alternator has been working for quite a while now. It seems they gave me two bad remanufactured ones. All that work I've had to do. OH WELL! Thanks again.
