2000 Malibu CD Deck Problem "ERR"

Hi there,
I bought my '00 Chev Malibu about 4 months ago. The tape deck and radio work perfectly, but the CD deck does not. When I put a CD in, everythings appears okay (it pulls it in) but then it says "ERR" and goes to the radio.
The manual says I'm driving under too rough of conditions, or it's too humid. I live in one of the drier parts of Canada, and the CD Deck does not even work when I'm parked. I've tried it in winter and spring so far, varying temperatures (20 F - 70 F) and nothing has worked.
It just says "ERR". I have tried cleaning the lens to no avail. I'd just replace the whole thing if I could, but I can't afford the adapter that I'd need.
The Deck is the original Delco Electronics deck that came with the car.
Thanks, any help is muchly appreciated! :)

I had something similar happen to me back when I owned my 1990 Olds Cutlass Supreme. I was actually playing the CD player. It just stopped. I could momentarily smell that burnt-electrical smell. That was it. From that point onward, it gave that "ERR" msg whenever I tried to play a CD.
I'd recommend getting a replacement at a salvage-yard. I ended up buying and replacing the CD-component part of the radio (once you take the case apart, the radio/cd player is fairly well modularized -- you can unbolt/unplug and remove the cd part). The company I bought it from had some sort of repair contract from GM. The business I bought it from was called "Audio Entronix" and it was located in Plymouth, Minnesota. I don't remember how much it cost. It wasn't a terrible job by any means. I seem to recall it was a bit of a struggle to get the buttons to line up when I had to put the front of the radio back on -- but it wasn't anything more than 5 minutes of wiggling around.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion!
Unfortunately I most likely won't be able to do that, as for the malibu it's so specialized. (It really angers me that chevy did that)

*NOTHING* worked. I broke down and bought a new deck. It plays MP3s, WMAs, etc. CD-RWs and all.
I didn't need that hella expensive adapter. Turns out, only some Malibus from 2000 need the adapter. Most stereo installation companies will check that for you for free.

What kind of CD Player did you buy? I have a 97 Malibu, I was just listening to a cd and it went static so I ejected it and it hasn't worked since.
Thanks
Thanks
