GM 700 shifting problems

I have a rwd cutlass v8.At operating temps when comming to a stop the trans - torque converter seems to not unlock.It is like trying to stop a car with a manual trans without disengaging the clutch.What tells the convertor to unlock.Is there a simple fix or is a rebiuld in order

sure its a 700? if the rwd olds has a 3.8 or 5.0 (A or Y code) then its a 200, SOME cutli were built with the H code and the 700, but the problem is the TCC solenoid which does fail in the 200 - easy to fix too - drop the pan and there she is.

Its quite simple. There is an electric solinoid switch inside the transmission that is getting stuck. This needs to be replaced. You need to drop thr transmission pan to get to it. While you are in there you may as well change the filter and clean up the pan too.
This is a common problem in '80's 4 speed automatics.
