Reverse Shift Gate?

my car has been "poping" itself out of reverse occasionally, it has always been a little picky about going into reverse. so here is my question, is this a shift gate problem or a cable linkage problem??? thanks for the help. :thumbsup:

Have you been putting it all the way in. Because mine is a bitch to get into reverse sometimes. It will go in but not all the way (it will be like half way in) and then i have to keep trying and then it goes in all the way. And if it is not all the way in it will not move, grind, or pop out.

There is no synchro or anything on reverse, so I cant see what could be wrong aside from improperly adjusted cables or bent brackets, etc. I always put gentle pressure on the shift lever towards reverse as I let the clutch up though, just to be sure it goes all teh way in. Since there is no synchro, the roation from the clutch coming in can get the gears aligned, and on my car this often a requirement. ;)

Yes, i do the same. but even after the gears are aligned, reverse is all the way in, with my hand still resting on the shifter it will push itself back out. so i guess i will start looking into cable adjustment??

mine has done that once in a while, usually when i don't have it all the way in...and when i feel its not all the way in i let up on the cluth and tap the gas and it slips in but it hasn't popped out after that
